SatNav (Amundsen) map screen locks to Wolfsberg - is this common?

Featured Replies

I was on my way to a relation's house in N Wales, a trip I have done many times, and had the Nav screen on as there was slow traffic on the M56. All of a sudden the map was showing Wolfsberg in Germany and no more moving map display. In an attempt to refresh the map I selected calculate the route to my relation's house. This did work and gave audio direction but the map display did not change from Wolfsberg.

Is this a known problem with the Amundsen unit, a problem with a particular version of the SatNav firmware or both? Is there is a firmware version that can be flashed by the dealer or once you have the unit is the only solution a replacement?

If had owned the car since 25 June and this has occurred twice now. The only thing in common that I can think of was that there was no route navigation selected and I had switched from map to traffic info and back a few times.

Mines was doing exactly the same, it happened when we had set the destination and then zoomed into the map with a two finger pinch. It was disturbing to say the least. Sat nav voice still worked and gave directions (as did the screen between the clocks) but the follow car wasn't working on the main screen.

I have stopped using the finger zoom and now just use the rotary wheel on the right hand side to zoom in and out. Fingers crossed it won't do it again.

Wait. You can use the wheel to zoom in and out?

Yup, someone posted it quite a while ago and I had a flashback moment. Was quite proud of myself :-)

I found that you can zoom in & out using the right side rotary wheel, but doing that turned off the automatic zoom function.

On the right side display the symbol 2nd down which is a square with arrows each side appears when I zoomed using the pinch function. At the same time the display changed to Wolfsburg. To change back I touched the symbol & it disappeared & the map returned to my planned route. According to the manual that key should align the map with the vehicle's position. Page36 of the Amundsen manual shows the function, but it sure doesn't do what it should in my car or it seems in others.

Mine was stuck on Wolfsburg on my first long journey, but it soon recovered. I just assumed it was a VW Group standard item feeling a bit homesick.

And, yes, I've always used the right knob for zooming.

Got my car yesterday, got this to happen on my first journey using the Sat Nav, it was shall we say 'confidence inspiring', considering most of the commands I've yet to master. However, the knob on the right for zoom level I thought was a standard thing on most sat navs. Surprised people didn't know.

Never had a factory fit nav before, so wouldn't know.

I came up behind hundreds of parked cars on the M25 Friday, switched to traffic to see how bad things were. After switching back to Nav I noticed the screen had frozen at the point where I switched, and my position (red arrow) was no longer shown. The only way I could sort it was to enter the route again from scratch.

Yep - Mine does this quite frequently. Just to remind me of its heritage! I find this software bug quite funny.

My Columbus has shown Wolsburg about 3 times in the 13 months, so it isn't just Amundsen.  I hardly ever use zoom, so that might explain why I haven't seen Wolsburg for a long time.

last time both mine and my brothers MK2 VRS showed wolfsberg it was down to a faulty GPS antenna that failed completely a week or two later

Mine started doing this today. Vehicle location icon suddenly disappeared. Then shortly thereafter map of Wolfsburg appeared, but mini screen between tacho/speedo shows correct turns/junctions for my route home (which I was travelling when the sat nav went do lally) . Map is permanently fixed on Wolfsburg. Weird!

Spoke to dealer - they suspect a faulty GPS atenna. Not an uncommon problem it seems.

Allan - was it a big job to fix on the Mk2? I suspect that they will have to rip the headlining out !

I'm not too sure how big a job it was if I'm honest. I left the car with them while I was at work. I'm on my 3rd GPS roof antenna and my brother is on his 2nd. You wouldn't know they had touched the headlining it still looks like it just came out the factory

Hi

Mine does this, but not very often.

Will talk to main dealer.

Mine did this for the first time on Saturday.

This happened to mine this morning, no route was planned but had checked the traffic problem that was displayed on the map. what has been the response from people who have contacted there dealers about the issue?

What Car? reported that this was happening to their Golf, so it must be a VAG thing.

Update to my original post.

In my case the issue does not seem (as originally thought) to be related to the GPS signal or problems with the attenae.

After several days of displaying Wolfsburg I have now fixed this (sort of) by updating the maps yet again on the SD card (4th time).

Following the map update the red vehicle location icon reappeared, and the proper maps were displayed.

The sat nav now appears to be working OK except for the fact that the SD card will no longer work in slot 2 as instructed by Skoda. It will work however from slot 1.

Slot 2 is still operational - I can play music from it OK. So I'm quitting whilst I'm winning for the moment.

I cancelled the appointment with the dealer (much to their relief I think as they seem distinctly nervous about the Amundsen system). We both await the next failure and will then take it from there.

What Car? reported that this was happening to their Golf, so it must be a VAG thing.

And their SEAT as well.
