safe to update maps?

Featured Replies

Having just driven on a major road that my 2018 Octavia satnav didn't know about, i decided it's time to update my (Amundsen) maps.   Got as far as https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/ and it all looks pretty straightforward, but the downloaded map update (ECE 1 2022) is only 6.7Gb, whereas the current SD card contents take up 12.9Gb .   The difference seems almost entirely attributable to files in the folder maps/00/nds/PRODUCT;  the update has subfolders E1, E2, E3, and E12, while the original additionally has E4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, and 13.

I hesitate to risk trashing my system by reformatting the card until i understand what these differences are down to -- anyone know?   The card's labelled "Europe 1";  the only substantially larger map on the update portal is the all-Europe ECE A1 2022, which requires a 32Gb card (mine's a 16Gb)

The older A1 maps fitted on a 16gb card but they've grown over time and no longer do.

If the ece1 maps have everywhere you need, go for it 👍

Thanks, l2k -- yes, that makes complete sense.   I see that my old map covered all of Europe right up to the Russian border, but i'm not going to be driving to Latvia any time soon...

I just updated with ECE1, all reassuringly straightforward.
