So Boris has said today that London and other UK City's are looking at charging £10 for diesel cars to enter city centres by 2020 and even new Euro 6 cars may not be exempt.

Boris also said it will not be to big a problem as the Government is being pressed to alter diesel fuel and road taxation over the next 6 years to help people choose the "Right" vehicle.

I presume by that he means Petrol, Hybrid and Electric.

If the 'Government' want to buy me the "right" vehicle, then they can do so, as long as i get to choose which one!!

I just heard Boris on the telly,

and sounded like he said it was a mistake to create cars that pump out so much 'Nitros Oxide.'

If you car does please save it and use it for more useful purposes.

City Centres are over rated.

The super markets and shopping outlets are being blamed for the death of the high street and city centres, so with this in mind what business would one have in a city centre by 2020 anyway?

Of course, it's £21.50 a day. The £10 is on top of the £11.50 congestion chage.

Sounds good. But let's look at it realistically and ask why High Streets are declining and shop towns are going elsewhere. YEP - MOTORING PERSECUTION . Smart towns attract shoppers in cars. In others, folks go to out of town shopping centres.

Hmmm, how often am I going to be driving in Central London.  If I was paying £20+ for the privilege though I'd be laying down some smoke trails past Buckingham Palace to get my monies worth

(now a yokel is going to say the Palace isn't in the congestion zone, but you get my point! :D)

Time for some Euro harmonisation.

In Germany and Italy, I just make a ONE OFF payment for a disc which certifies my Diesel is only "so" mucky.

I'm level 4 (which is good) and I can go into any city in Germany for that single €5.

Call me cynical, but sounds like a new revenue stream.

Who wants to go to London? If you work there - sad for you.

Wisbech doesn't even charge for parking.

Unless you use the multistorey - in Fenland, being that high is a bit of a novelty.

I've lived in London for 6 years. I've rarely had cause to drive inside the CC zone, so the new charge is fine by me! Presumably it won't apply at evenings and weekends just to make it even more daft...

Wasn't that long ago that the govt was encouraging diesels due to better emissions. But as others have said, wants to go into London anyway, the Lake District is so much nicer and have everything anyone needs.

Gonna hit the bus company's and such pretty hard ??

What about Taxis?

Are they exempt?

Nope, don't care at all about this until it happens here.

My van is the only oil burner I have left for the time being but

not ruling diesel out for the next car as I may want to tow a trailer.

i go out my way to avoid city centres, nothing but 20mph speed limits, traffic and cyclists! quite happy to fly down the backroads and park my car in residential area's so the residents compalin they can't get parked! it just wouldn't work, they will have to build multi story carparks outside the zones for the people who grudge being fleeced even more by the goverment! then shops and businesses will start pulling out of the city centre because they just wont be getting the business anymore.

Did read in the paper the other day, they wanted to make all scottish cities enforce conjestion charges in the city centres, (all 3 of them) just means people will shop online and in out of town shopping centres. it'll never happen.

I think they should make cyclists pay road tax and insurance have a valid MOT on their bikes and have a cycling license! biggest nucence on the roads! and the ammount of them that come within an inch of the car, with no helmets and no lights is stupid, then the motorist gets charged when they cycle into a car or in the path of a car. and don't even get me started on the ****s that run red lights because they are are cyclists! i have been known to get out the car and go mental at them for it! had one lassie in tears because i called her a Fecking moron! and told her i hope she gets knocked down! hahaha can you tell this is a sore spot for me?

I have a Green "4" Umweltplakette too. Most modern diesels get a green one.

A much more sensible way of doing it. That is if they really were interested in keeping "dirty" cars out the cities and not using it as an excuse to make some money out of the motorist once more.

Ok, if BoJo doesn't want me in central Larndarn I'll not be in Larndarn, at all, ever. Now, can we find 59_999_999 other people who're prepared to take the same attitude and see what effect that has on him?

it was only a matter of time to be honest, diesels kick out more harmful toxins compared to petrol engines, I've wondered for quite some times why the government are blinkered on CO2 output. I can see more emission zones being created in big cities and people having to pay a daily charge to enter them, I can also see road tax increasing drastically for diesel engine vehicles.

Meanwhile, . . . . hundreds of thousands of this category of  vehicle thunder round the M25, outputting the majority of London's vehicle pollution, the better part of which cascades into central London by virtue of the topology and prevailing winds.

It just tokemism, and dragged-leg tokenism at that, which do doubt, the European Court will be screwing them for in due course when the Court Case concludes.

Unlike the congestion charge, it applies all the time.

Agree totally if I'm honest. Many major cities have already banned diesel vehicles.

Which Major or Minor UK Cities have already banned Diesel Vehicles?

Here is a scenario.

This afternoon London Midland cancelled a single service (1636h) out of New Street. The Arriva train at 1628 was packed to the gunwhales with commuters and some couldn't get on at all. Change at Wolverhampton and the next London Midlands service is loaded to bursting point. Squeezed on but only just. One small, insignificant looking train and the whole system comes close to collapse.

How are all these extra people going to get to work then?

It was spoken about earlier this week that councils have done their level best to kill town centres. Shoppers no longer go there, looks like they're determined that workers don't either.
