Space saver wheel for VRS as dealer accessory

Featured Replies

Hi chaps,

In about a month I'm off for a road trip holiday to sue la france and as I neglected to spec a spare wheel when I ordered my VRS estate, I called my dealer today to order one. Much to my surprise they say there isn't one for the MK3 Octavia VRS estate and they even called Skoda who confirmed the same. This doesn't sound right. I pointed out that others on this forum have ordered them and was met with a 'get us a the part number and we can order if for you'.

Has anyone purchased one after market as a dealer accessory? If so, do you have the Skoda part number?

Many thanks.

  • Update from Skoda UK. There is now an aftermarket space saver and foam insert with toolkit available for the VRS. They are finalising the parts in their system but it should be purchasble via dealers

  • its total nonsence for any new car to come without a spare wheel in my opinion

  • I picked up my official aftermarket spare wheel kit for my VRS today. Its identical to the BTO factory option (no surprises there) - wheel, toolkit and foam insert all installed perfectly. Job done. B

Have a word with www.dennishorton.co.uk/shop

See if they can do anything for you.

Must be a part No. when you place the order via the configurator.

I have a spare wheel for my MkIII Vrs (Hatch), it's as thin as a motor bike tyre, jack and wheel brace. So you must be able to get one

I just called Hortons - they confirmed the same. Skoda do no offer the spare wheel kit as an aftermarket accessory for the VRS. Its Build to Order or nothing.

Bugger - don't really know what to do next. I know diddly squat about sourcing my own.

I can't believe I can't buy a spare wheel for my new car!

Get stuck into Skoda UK CS to get it sorted for you a.s.s.p.

They're taking crap, the wheel and tool kit will be available from your local dealers parts dept, it's not an accessory though, you'll need to order it all as parts.

On page 9 of the accessories catologue it states that the tool kit and spare wheel are available for all models, surely your dealer could borrow one from another car and replace this through their next VRs order and charge you for the privilege. If as they say they cannot get one.

I've spoken to Skoda UK CS this evening. Friendly but useless women on the end of the phone said they would check the sales brochure for me. What a waste of time. I asked her to escalate it for me.

Interesting to know its in the parts catalogue, thanks for that. All the dealers have told me the spare wheel + accessories are available for all other Octavia models, just not the VRS.

I can't believe how something so simple is so unattainable.

I'm going to call a few more local dealers and Skoda CS again tomorrow and hopefully speak to someone else who knows what a car is.

Here's the part number for the wheel - not sure about the tools as there is no label.  To be honest there is so much room under the floor you might as well go for a full sizes spare and get yourself a suitable jack and wheel brace.

You're a star, thank you. This is a great help.

At least I have something to go back to my dealer & Skoda with now.

Fingers crossed.

I can't believe they make you add a spare wheel as a spec! It comes std on the vRS in NZ. Glad it does or I'd be in the same position as you!

Hi all,

I paid about £90 for a tyre kit including wheel through Citygate Parts.

Was fitted when she was in for cosmetic work.

Thanks Brian. I really hope they can deliver the goods as I don't fancy a 2500 mile round trip to the south of France without a spare wheel.

I'm in the Croxley Green area - look out for me.

Croxley Area, my other half's folks live in Kenilworth Rd. Either car would be seen in an around.

Both my brother and me live more in and around Warner Bros Studios area.

You'll regonise mine from the rear little hornet on board car hanger.

We must get Briskoda stickers for the car.

Brian

If you want a full size spare so you aren't restricted to 50 mph then it fits in boot well, you can get a jack on Amazon for £12, and search eBay for a used alloy.  You need a 7.5j ( that's the width) x 18", ET51 ( that's the offset in mm), 5 bolt 112mm pcd.  I suggest searching for seat Leon fr and cupra ( but not older mks), golf r and gti, mk 5 and newer. A other cars also have the same rims but those are the common ones.  You should get a largely perfect rim for £60 or £65.  So rim and jack is less than the Skoda space saver cost. The tyre is another £100 but you will use it in the future.

Hi all,

Just had a look under the Variable Boot Floor In the car, the kit has a full size wheel not a space saver

Label has ATEST 8SD (funny c) 1426 then underneath it numbers 5E0093860

The vRS has a 18" spacesaver.  If your's has a "full size" steel wheel it'll be 16" and won't fit the front as it's the wrong one.

So if the wheel can't be bought, what happens if you have the spacesaver and it gets damaged and needs replacing?

It can be bought.

I've just got off the phone with a 2nd Skoda Customer Services person and yet again, they confirm that you cannot buy a Spare wheel as a kit or standalone for an Octavia VRS. Its BTO or nothing. They are only available for the non-VRS models.

I pointed out that if you have a BTO spare wheel and you need a replacement, what does one do then?.....and then the penny dropped.....but no solution. Useless.

So I called Citygate Skoda Watford. These guys are really helpful! After the explaining the situation, they have found the same problem. There is no after market spare wheel kit for the Octavia VRS. The part number in the photograph above cannot be ordered after market either. They are going to make some calls to find out what options are available to me including them sourcing 3rd party parts to achieve the same thing.

I can't believe its this hard - I can see me buying an Gemini anthracite rim with tyre at this rate.

Brian: Whilst I can't confirm it, it's possible what you have doesn't fit the front wheels.

The saga continues.

That's nuts! Can VW, Audi or Seat supply one?
