Golf GT TDI

I drove a 140 GT TDI of that age before getting an Octy.

The only thing GT about the GT TDI are that it has alloys. It's just a trim level.

Solid but dull, and the interior is a very dreary black on black.

If he's expecting a neon boy racer in the same vein as the VXR he might get a bit of a shock.

I think the draw of the Astra vxr was more for the looks, I think he the practicality and reliability side of things have started to sway things towards a more, reputation wise, reliable marque: Audi/VW.

I can't say I have looked into a GTTDI properly myself, from your comments they aren't that exciting inside!

Get him to look at a MK2 Octy vRS ....

I would love his choice to sway to an Octy vRS - Doubt it'll happen though as he is more after a hatchback rather than a larger car.

Yes, a lot more VW cars have DPFs so you need to look more carefully. Skoda didn't get them to keep them down market.

Avoid the PD170 as it had injector issues as well as DPF ones.

I'd avoid any PD with a DPF.

Get a PD130 1.9 :) (but check for DPF on Audi/VW).

His mileage should cover, or at least help along, the DPF issues, fingers crossed.

The PD130 does get very very, from far and wide, good reviews!

Thank you all for your tips and advice, opinions and comments. Much appreciated.

I had a PD130 in my last Octavia. It was great, I did nearly 100k miles in it. The only time it broke down was when SWMBO put petrol in it! I happen to know it's still going too. Now closing in on 160k.

You mean the 1.9 pd130 tdi wont run on petrol?

Hmm. Thought these were a reliable engine? Im disapointed,, ;)

The pd130 is the same in my car, the same engine that was used in everything in the VAG range at 1.9tdi - even powering the A6.

I am hoping it gets me to 160k and further, annual services oil and filters, warming up before being heavy footed and cooling down after getting to optimum temperature, fingers crossed.

Work mate had a PD130 TDI Golf, she sold it at 140k miles. Engine was totally fine but the rest of the car was starting to go.

That seems to be fairly common.

Had a PD130 in my Passat. Engine was fine when I got rid at 10 years old, just the rest of the car was letting it down.

if my mate decides to sell my old car on, I might have it back off him. It'll still be fine.
