This is what the Yeti could do...

If it had more ground clearance:

And no Graham, there was no choice of lines on this track  :D

Ground clearance was everything (and a difflock it seems, as a Defender 90 struggled to come down this without one - cross-axles and all that).

I admire the photographers bravery in standing in front of your Freelander, all the way down....

Mike - you're barmy!  But I love it !

If you're going to go in to 'could do's', for a fraction of the price you could clear that section in 10seconds on a motorbike :P

 or in a Fabia with tractor like arch gap!

or my pedal bike! Mind you probably cost nearly the same...

Mike,

Looked like a good trip!!

Some of the lines looked "interesting", but agreed there wasn't much room to do or go anywhere else.

I've never got a Yeti wheel that far in the air!!

Ian,

It isn't a problem taking photos like that when you consider that you are rarely getting above walking speed.

Yes, I was tearing down this at 1-2mph most of the time when I wasn't stopped  :D

The 110 that went down before me hit its roof on the telegraph pole, which is why the waffle boards were put down.

The Defender 90 that came down behind me was 1 week old and nice and shiny and he had never driven green lanes before.

But even that was lifting wheels off the ground. You can see that on my channel, the link via my YouTube video above.

Here is the 'view' from inside the Freelander. You can feel it going onto 2 wheels a few times  :D

So the point of this topic (apart from showing off what a lightly modified Freelander 1 will do), is to show what the Yeti, which is very capable off road, could do with more ground clearance.

I have about the same ground clearance as a standard Defender, but not the low ratio gearbox (the auto helps with that) or the axle articulation, or the height!!!

I assume this must be the bit of the A431 between Bristol and Bath blocked by the landslip.back in February that's not going to be open for traffic until Xmas.

Of course for £2 you could use the new "bypass" through the farmer's field and save all that trouble. Or am I missing something here?

I thought the Defender 90 had a diff lock, or am I misunderstanding something (more than likely :D )

He broked it after only 1 week. That's a bit sad :( Wonder how my 3dr grand Vitara would have coped?

Wrong Defender. There was an Orange one that really struggled, which had a broken difflock.

The new one was fine.ish

This makes a good comparison with the videos at http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/192670-yeti-adventure-surrey-4x4-lane/page-5?hl=%20skoda%20%20yeti%20%204x4%20%20adventure , especially Rockhopper's dashcams from Yeti and now Freelander  :whew: .  That thread is almost essential viewing for any new Yeti owners as an intro to what it can do without too much fuss.
