My Citigo is a heap!

Featured Replies

I've come to this conclusion. It's true.

2 days on the trot now I start up and the oil struggles to reach the top end so it's outside the garage while I shut the door with the camshaft knocking it's head off :(

Only does it on a cold start.

Next is I braked the other day and there was a big metal snapping noise which I felt through the brake pedal and now it has bad front brake bind. It won't roll on it's own like it used to do.

Then there's a knocking noise from the front suspension going over any kind of bumps.

Also loss of power(maybe to do with the brakes) it's lost it's will to move.

These things aren't built to last for sure.

I'll dump it in the dealers to look at I suppose.

Roll on Sept 1st when I get my Rapid Sport.

I really miss my Octavia now :(

id say except the oil "problem" all of those could be linked to a bad brake pad or something like that.

big bumps - knocking it around

gets wedged then rubs against the disc, causing binding, or slow performance.

get the brakes checked at the dealer, might be covered under warrenty if its failed prematurely (or not as it is a maintenance item)

then you can have a moan ;)

If you think it's a heap I'll swap you my Clio then you'll want it back

The worrying part is the cold start. The oil is taking forever to get to the top now (oil level is ok) and the camshaft is knocking like crazy for about 10 seconds. No oil light comes on though when started. God knows what it is.

If the servo gets its vacuum from a pump driven off the top end and you are suffering a lack of oil up there it may be causing the brake problems ?

return spring broke on rear drum?

have you jacked it up to find which wheel is binding?

The brakes went bad over a week ago way before this oil problem. It's been knocking since Saturday :(

The dealer has had the rears apart due to a squeal I had and are ok. I believe it to be the o/s/f as when there was a loud snapping noise it came from that area. The wheel is very dirty on that side with dust more than the other.

And you've been driving it like that?

Got no choice over this weekend as it's my only car for work. Once the noise is gone it won't do it again. Just when it's from cold. I'm going to the dealers tommorow with it.

did the dealer have the rears apart before or after the brake issue?

the front disks don't really have anything that would explain the noise you heard, there is no handbrake with auto adjust etc, just a hydraulic cylinder and 2 pads, unless the noise you heard was from the ABS unit? which I think is in the front passenger inner wing near the bulkhead

try giving it a heavy stop to make the ABS work and see if anything changes?

The rears were done on it's first service a long time ago. They said it was a big build up of dust causing the squeal. They've not done it since.

When I heard the loud snapping noise I felt it through the pedal and it sank a little. The brakes now are rubbish even under heavy braking.

Don't drive it like that. Call out your breakdown service and get them to take it to the garage. The more you drive it like that the more damage you are doing and the less likely Skoda are to do it under warranty. If you have an accident and the Police find you have been driving with bad brakes they will throw the book at you!

This was today's cold start up. Don't know if it's audible enough on video.

The car is booked in on the 10th September as that's the earliest booking time. I'll have my Rapid next Monday (64 reg) to use whilst it's being sorted.

Sounds ok to me. One thing to check is the air box. Ours keeps coming loose and comes away from the throttle body causing a strange engine tone.

I would still call out your breakdown service. If its still in warranty then you would have cover from home. Make sure you don't start the car for before they get there. If they say its OK to drive then (if you wish) drive it. If it then goes Bang then you have some redress on them. If they say no then you can get it towed/trailered to a garage. You might get a curtsey car or you may need to hire one (under the warranty you can claim back up to a week but only if they agree its a warranty job)

I've had a good look around for loose things but it's quite a cam noise on start up. That video is not as bad as yesterday. I wish I recorded it because it was very noisey. I'm getting a loan car when it's booked in so I don't have to use my Rapid :)

If I'm to be honest that sounds like mine did the other day. I thought "that's a bit tappety".

Can't say the notice since as this morning the radio was on.

I'll have another listen tomorrow morning.

As above if you are worried Skoda assist and get them to provide a loan car

Today it's different. Hardly much noise. Weather getting colder?

Mine is garaged though so it's always warm in there. Started at work earlier after sitting 8 hours all was normal. Very puzzling.

Have to say since then mine has not done it, this morning sounded normal. Maybe the oil was a little colder or slower to reach the top on that day? Only difference was that it was parked on the drive which has a slope where as normally it's parked in the road.

I look at it like this, I've got a 5 year warranty, and I will change before then so I'm not overly worried about any issues.

Might be a sticky hydraulic tappet?

Do you do lots of short trips?

  • Author

My commute to work is a 30 mile round trip everyday. It gets well exercised between 40 and 50 mph most of the way. It's never really done any short trips.

Well today it's like normal. I think it just had a funny couple of days. Last night was ok too. It's all reported with the dealer though I may just add the very noisey release bearing again too and see what the answer is this time.

Build of these cars is not like they used to be. My Octavia did 70 K trouble free miles and only a SMF conversion at 35K. Best Skoda I've had so far. Let's hope the Rapid is too.

Moaning over :)

Probably because they are all built at the same factory as the Up! and Mii  ;)
