Opinions or experiences of the latest 'Ford Transit Custom'.

Featured Replies

So i have not googled them, (yet) or read up on them or asked anyone driving them,

but there are some rather nice ones knocking about.

IMO quite sporty looking in just plain colours & i have seen a few liveried ones looking quite cool.

?

So just out of interest from anyone here that has driven one, what are they like now to drive / own ?

My mum has one about 1month old, it's 1 of only fourteen of her type and colour in the country at the moment. The van is loaded extras that any car owner would love to have. It also has the 150hp engine in it. This van replaced a 3 year old transit 140hp, and the difference between them is night and day my mum says. She always praised the way her last van drove especially over the past generation transits, the new model drives like a car. Oh and you get a 3 pin 240v socket too lol.

From what I've heard through the Lad at the yard who drives one is that they feel even more like a car and are massively improved on the last generation of Transits which I've found to be reasonably good

slightly OT, but any new connect drivers either? Our current fleet will be getting replaced end of this yr, and odds are it will be same again - plain white connects. Current 2011, 75ps fleet are bags of under powered, fuel hungry crap...

My old boss has just bought one to replace his 2011 140hp transit sport.

Im yet to see him about, but I'll be asking what he thinks.

Shame i wont get to drive this one! Haha.

Iv heard reports that you can get a 3m length of copper tube in the back. Perfect!

Phwoaaarrr I'm sure he'd let you drive it ;)

Ill word him up n see what i can do! Haha.

I know he wanted a faster one n maybe 4wd or rwd when i left. (It was always full so fwd was forever spinning up. I had it spinning in third once. The stuff lambos are made of ;))

But then, I'm not sure if the custom comes with these options.

Can't be as bad as the ruddy flat bed I drove earlier

3 pin socket in a van..... Genius!

Is it in the cab or in the back?

Kettle. The most important piece of equipment.

No work gets done without a brew. Site rule number 1.

True then it's the radio and then tools

Kettle and drills and mobile charger. Standard.

Can also run a tranny from it and have 110v tools running off of the

vans engine even if you are working in the middle of a field.

Anyone know what max load is?

Not weight, wattage.

No longer made in southampton though :(

Is the vauxhall van still made here.

.

It's in the cab, and no you can't run power tools from it. It's meant for things like laptops.

That's about as much use as a chocolate tea pot to a builder.

I'd have thought the likes of me would have been fords main target market for

a transit. 240/110v power sockets for things with slightly more guts than a

phone charger/laptop would sell thousands of extra Transits for Ford.

Mind you the first generation of connects actually had a handbag hook in the cab

I had one for a while back when I was a courier.

My ideal van would have,

Small hand wash station,

240v/110v plugs,

Twin deck rear section so sheet materials could be stored under

tools and other stuff in the back.

Towbar.

Tall enough to stand up in properly.

Nav, bluetooth, side door,

integrated locking tool chest,

full bulkhead with removable panel for longer loads.

Roof bars suitable for 8 x 4 sheets.

3 seats in the cab.

Don't want much do I? :D

That's fair Garry! Similar to our old mk7 Transits up at the yard except without twin deck as one of ours runs leisure batteries! Never used it myself so don't really know if it works

Didn't mean to post, blaming my phone.

Yeah, they're all that's keeping the Luton plant open I think!

Much better I've heard and much closer to the Transporter than the last transit.

All the ones I've seen have been well spec'd with body kit and 17" alloys similar to the Focus ST.

Big alloys arent always a good idea on a van

My old bosses Sport came with 18 inch wheels and when fully loaded, they were forever blowing tyres.

We do oil and LPG heating so were always out in the sticks on rough roads.

Ended up buying smaller aftermarket Fox alloys eventually.
