Here's my 54,000 mile brake disc MOT failure

My old car passed an mot with a rear disc like that, then I changed it.

I bought my vRS from an Independent Dealer in Hinckley about a year ago with 34,000 miles on the clock.

I had a call from the Stealers when my car was in for its 40,000 mile service in January to say that the front discs were corroded and needed replacing.  At the time I couldn't afford it as it was having the DSG service and an air-con regas, too and asked them to leave them.

The car went through the MoT in May with about 45,000 miles on the clock, but the corrosion had been noted and I was advised accordingly.

I had a couple of quotes a few weeks ago for replacing the front discs and pads as I am rapidly approaching the next service at 50,000 miles and didn't want to get tucked up by the Stealers for the job.  A local indy quoted me £267 using genuine parts and the Stealers quoted £249, obviously using genuine parts.  I was slightly shocked, so phoned a couple of places for prices and was quoted £58 for each front disc and £58 for the pads, all plus VAT but for genuine parts, but then told that there would be a discount applied and the total payable would be £118.76.  Happy days.  The supplier was Trade Parts Specialists, with whom I have no connection, just as a happy customer;

A colleague at work, who was a motor mechanic in a previous life, fitted them for me at a cost of £40, so just under £160 all in.  Even happier days!!

The new pads and discs are now bedded in and the difference in braking performance, even though the discs were nowhere near the condition of the PP's, is fantastic.
