Well, SWMBO has put her foot down with a firm hand and decreed that my bulky set up must go to be replaced with one of these nice shiny all-in-one systems. So my lovely Denon AVR 2802 amp, REL Q150E Sub and Tanoy/KEL Speaker set up must go to make room. :orb_upset

Been looking around at various systems but there are so many on the market it's difficult to know which one to go for. The only stumbling block would be the that SWMBO wants to be able to play CD's with good level of sound quality, as for me I just want my 5.1 with a sternum shattering bass line, aye.

Thats were you lot come in. Basically I need some recommendations to listen to, any ideas. :)

Delcac, who's boss in your house?? , put your foot down, tell SWMBO to get lost and expand on what I know is a tasty system, DO NOT under any circumstances go and buy those poxy all in one systems, it will break your heart. gl mate :)

Try getting in touch with DaveM he works in electronics he could possibly help you.

Me I would reccomend Panasonic as its what I'Ve got HT900 Home theatre Sound system 500watts of sound and 5 disc changer .Does for me ......and the neighbours

I recently bought a Yamaha DOlby 6.1 Amp with the intention of adding decent speakers etc. when funds allow. For now we use the DVD player as a CD player as it has an optical digital output.

The amp was

So does this mean there might be a Sub for sale soon? ;)

Martinpb has recomended me in a consultanty role!!!!

I work as a product specialist for a well known 3 letter consumer electronics company.

Here is some unbiased ramblings in all honesty nothing in a one box will come close to what you've got now. However if you are willing to compromise a little bit you will have some joy,

Your main problem will be CD sound (I know I had the same problem and realty had to bite the bullet)

Denon,Yamaha,Pioneer,Panasonic JVC and Bose all do very acceptable one box solutions.

If you can find a JVC QS5 7 OR 9 they are very good at CD Reproduction but are now discontinued but stock is still out there. If you want to pm me I would be happy to point you on the right direction with regards to retailers.

But in the end its down to your own ears.

If you ask for a demo dont be mesmerised by crashing cars and explosions. instead look for subtle surround noises as even the "Asda models can make bangs"

2.0fsi Elegence Corrida red ESP Maxidot and Light Thingy

I feel likwe a pimp offering other peoples services......Do I get a cut ?????

10% ............................................................................and you missed a letter out of cut!!!! :

Dont do it Des, you will regret it. However, if your getting shot.........speakers need home's you know ;)

I would never have an all in one jobbie. You need a DVD that has dedicated outputs and prog scan (as well as multi-region)

:D Test drove a couple of these 'One Box' thingies, what a load of old ****.

SWMBO took her fav CD for a demo, it took her about 10 secs to eject it and walk off.......Quasimodo (spelling?) springs to mind. I think we may be keeping the Denon for now.

PS..Andy, get your own speakers...you ain't getting your hands on my Tannoys. :P ;) You can have a demo when next in the area.

I have my own Yamaha stuff Des, so dont worry...but always looking.

Will pop in next time I'm around for a listen..and that cup of tea you offered last time ;)

There's always the option of hiding your cinema set up in a nearby cupboard or pantry, then wiring up an infra red control unit. This will still leave you with the speakers, but the rest will be hidden. There is a small plastic pyramid on show that accepts infra red signals from all of your remote controls, and a small transmitter next to your set up which relays the signals to your equipment.

It even works with PS2 wireless controllers, so you can hide the playstation as well and just use an infra red controller.

I'd recommend BOSE or a HARMAN KARDON 7.1 system, they really are the mutts nuts!!!! :D
