Sunset tinting

Featured Replies

What's the story with getting the back windows of the car tinted? I have no tinting on the car at the moment, but like the look of the OEM tinted glass from the B pillar back (I think this is the 'Sunset Glass' option). Has anyone done this after market?

Is the OEM tint part of the glass or a layer on the glass like aftermarket tinting?

Any special minding needed for the tinted glass compared to untinted? Does aftermarket tinting last well? I'll stay with the normal glass if there's a good chance that aftermarket tints will look like crap in a few years as I'm not looking to make more work for myself maintaining the car.

The factory tinting from the b-pillar back is in the glass itself.  It's actually darker glass.

Aftermarket tinting is fine, I've always had my cars tinted and they last the life of the car.  Don't clean with anything with ammonia in it.  Don't get the cheapest installer as they usually have to pull the door cards or trim off and an amateur will cause rattles etc (some just push back the rubber seals).

If you go to a reputable tinter then they should last the life of the car. You can get any level of tint you want from the the B pillar back.

I have limo tint on my Honda and will get the same for the Rapid when i get it. It looks cool, less chance of having something stolen from inside as you can't see anything, it's more secure should something/someone hit the window and the film will reduce the chance of the glass shattering into a thousand pieces and going all over the inside of your car plus it looks cool.

The only down side is that visibility is near enough zero at night in the rear view mirror.

We have had both our cars done and we have had no issues. The main reason we got them is because of the kids in the back and I hate those stick on sun blinds that are next to useless. My other half went for limo spec on hers which has been great in the hot summers. Like has already been said you do have zero visability at night but we both reverse using the wing mirrors so not an issue for us. I went for the grade below limo on my Superb and it is fine and looks good.

Excellent news :). Thanks everyone for the replies. What sort of cost is it for a quality tinting job?

I'm not looking to go any darker than the OEM spec, which should still give visibility for night driving. I have the auto dipping interior mirror anyway thanks to the Irish elegance spec being less daft than the UK. Tints and a remap to a little over 200 bhp are the only upgrades I want at the moment. I'm tempted by the new style badges too, as they look infinitely classier, so I must talk to my local dealer - they're probably cheaper than the internet once postage costs are added...

Just had mine done, 20% from b pillar back and I find it perfect. Not too dark but classy and practical. Found that to be best % I've tried so far. Just added LED sidelights to match the bi-xenons and that's the extent of my mods but will probably bluefin it next year or so. Incidentally cost me £225 for tints but they were super professional :)

My tints cost £140 at a local place in my town. I got it slightly lower as we had taken the other car there 6 months previously. Cant fault the blokes work on both cars.

Mine cost €250 in Dublin for all side & back windows.

I was £160 for my Civic from Magma Autotint. He did a very good job so I'll be going there to get the Rapid done next year
