Fitting a Bolero double DIN radio to MK1 VRS

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Has anyone fitted a Bolero double DIN radio from a newer car?

I am hoping to do this with my 56 plate VRS, but I've noticed that the Bolero head unit is an odd shape on the front - does it leave a gap around the radio when fitted?

Cheers all,

Rob

The Bolero has a much larger bezel than standard double DIN in the Fabia MK1, you would need to substantially modify either the headunit itself or your dashboard otherwise its not even going to fit at all.

The front is actually bigger than a normal double din one... so I'd say it's a no-go!

Thanks fellas! Could you recommend another? I'm looking for something with aux in and reasonable sound quality.

Preferably DAB as well.

Bluetooth and navigation would be nice, but definitely not a must.

I went with a Delta 6 / equiv. to Skoda Rhapsody II to maintain the classic dashboard looks. I got this one instead of the RCD200 (which would also be a direct fit) because it has a larger display. Being a Blaupunkt product, it should offer a better sound experience than a cheap eBay Android 2-din unit.

I've connected the CAN wires, activated it via VCDS, now all functions are working, including GALA. Aux input with a bluetooth adapter, streaming music from my smph, and it's also working as a handsfree.

I would like to find a VW MCD unit (or the Skoda equiv.), which has a navigation system and IMO would look better. No color displays wanted for the OLD Fabia.  :nerd:

Keep a regular eye on ebay with a good search criteria and something might come up to please

I was let down on a Kenwood purchase on ebay which I mentioned on here (seller pulled out was too cheap for him lol), missed quite a few others too for cheap someone made bargains, I'd say £120-140 for a good used double din is achievable, most reach approaching £200+ especially the more recent units.

Eventually got my pionner nav as faulty due to non working FM (but TMC works lol) but £77 and everything else works, including BT so can't complain, and I am planning to get a £35 DAB to add digital audio - Screen scratch free and looks the biz. Might eventually work out the FM issue if I can be bothered (its a separate tuner module I'm told)

Just patience and a bit of luck and a balance of what you are happy. I think buy cheap buy twice can happen, the same can be a risk when buying used but I'd rather buy a good brand used than a bad brand new, the lesser of two weevils I reckon

Then you finded the way to add can bus to fabia mk1?

You need to unmount the instrument panel and get a set of wires connected from the radio to the dash panel wires leading connector pins 9(high) and 10(low).
