Phones 4U

Featured Replies

I just took out a new contract on EE with Phones 4 U about a month or so ago. I have the phone and it's all working etc.

The question I have now is - if P4U goes belly up, then who is my contract with? To whom does my direct debit go each month? And if I want to cancel my contract and go direct with EE, can I?

Anyone know?

Your contract will still be enforceable, it will transfer to the airtime provider. They have already said that existing contracts will be honoured and unaffected if the company fails.

When you take out a contract from phones4u they only act as an introducer to the network. Your airtime agreement is with the network and that hasn't changed.

Isn't the retailer (phone4u) supposedly responsible for the phone if it goes wrong as they're the seller?  I've never been sure to be honest.

if anything happens with a phone its often been quicker to go direct to the network anyway, the only think phones4u and such can offer that they cant is a loan phone

Then the manufacture will take responsibility for any repairs.

How would the manufacture know if its under warranty? The phone might of been sat in Phone4u's warehouse 3 months?

Would the warranty not actually start from when the phone was activated? You car's warranty doesn't begin from when the manufacturer builds it.

Every phone network will know exactly what is on their network, the serial numbers and when they were first activated.

Yes it will be. I had a HTC phone from a small retailer who went pop. When I had a problem with the handset I contacted HTC, I had to send them a copy of the paperwork for when I got the phone and I got 2 years warranty from the date I got the phone. HTC had sold the phone to the supplier about 3 months before I got it.

Makes sense - Proof of warranty from paperwork of purchase.

I don't think they can tell when you purchased it from the handset...

Warranty starts on the day of purchase....................as shown on your receipt.

Some devices will phone home on first activation.
