Re-map Query???

Featured Replies

Here's a question for ya. My car is booked into Jabba for a re-map in the next couple of weeks. Now speaking strictly hypothetically say I decide to sell the car on in a years time but decide to buy another vRS of the same type i.e fly-by-wire etc. Can I simply unplug the existing ECU and do a swap with the new car?? Or am I missing something.....

Hypothetically speaking you could plug it into another 1.8T engine BUT it probably wouldn't drive the same as the remap is done specifically to an engine. A good example is Denis' remap....got 230bhp whereas Ian got 222bhp. Same engine different characteristics (have deliberately by passed fuel and weather conditions).

You more than likley can swap REVO/APR software to any 1.8T (assuming drive by wire and same engine code) as it generic.

Would I do it....No.

I seem to remember reading on the Jabba site that they will return your car to standard Free of charge and give you a

Or you could leave the car mapped when you sell it, and add a premium for the buyer - who more than likely will appreciate the increased power ;)

(or just not tell them...!)

You shouldn't beleave all you read as figures mysteriously get inflated from dyno to post. :(

Des

dyno's are a mystical thing... i doubt any 4x4 has really got more than 30bhp... or is it just the way they are driven?;)

seriously though... as the the new vRS will not have the 1.8T in it is this not a bit of a hypothetical scenario.. ?

Right as usual Paul but you could plug the old 1.8T into a new RS, couldn't you......Angle grinder at the ready. :D

Des

Whats the new vRS going to be then Paul - PD150?

John, Rumour has it that it will utilise the 2.0 FSi motor.....

assume the 2.0T same as A3 / golf mk 5.

if anyone know diff. pls tell.. there might be a diesel version but i hope not diesel only...

Even Mike at Jabba was delighted with the results he got, so up yours...

(We have a serious attack of sour grapes here, methinks).

OOOooooOOO............You're quite right Mr. D, it is amazing how SOME (loosely termed) 4X4 owners try to emulate the pinnacle of Octy ownership that is the RS. :D

Des

...is this a concerted effort by everyone concerned to make Briskoda more.....errrr....main stream e.g MLR, Corner Carvers et al?;)

This sounds like its turning into one of the usual debates that there used to be on Scoobynet:-

- My PPP UK model is better than your STi import, or - My RB5 is faster than your bug eye model.

What I will say in seriousness is that I've owned 15 4x4 road cars and based on the Jabba power output of the engine and the fuel consumption I get, the Haldex 4x4 transmission must be one of the most technically efficient ones that exists ?

Rob

Des, neither the RS or the 4x4 are the pinnacle of octavia ownership - that would have to go to the L&K or WRC edition.

now your really taking the ****..;)

Steady!

Seriously, if you are happy with FWD, as many as you are, a remapped WRC is more "sporty \ special" and an L&K is more luxurious.

i dont recall anyone every arguing that a sierra ghia was better than a cossie just cos it had wood bits.....

even in the 80's when stick on wood was remotely acceptable...:p

But if they had done the ghia with the cossie unit, then things would have been different.

I can't argue with Ian, he does have a relevant point.:D

... in a rapidly off-topic thread. ;)

Seriously, no-one buys a car these days cos it has wood on the dash. I certainly didn't.

And Ian is right - you could take a stock 1.8T L&K and Jabba it to 225 to 230. Set of KWs and you're away, with all of the toys of the L&K trim. If that's what someone wants.

Horses for courses.

Plus, with the improved suspension of the WRC, many of you may not have changed your suspension, and you get ESP \ xenons \ headlamp washers etc, more toys but all "driver focused".

i seriously doubt the wrc susp is a s good as kw?

indeed, but it might have been good enough not to make some people change?
