New Polo GTi

Featured Replies

I tried to just upload the picture of the deal instead of the link, but it wasn't happening. I'm not sure on mileage like I said I haven't gone for a PCP deal

  • The depreciation is the same though no matter if cash or PCP. If you paid £20k for a polo GTI and drive it for 4 years then sold it for 10k..... You've still "lost" 10k with "nothing to show" for it

  • Peugeot were adamant no GTI badeg ever again.  remember the 208 GTi launch.   Ford dumped the RS badge after the dissapointment of the RS1800 and RS2000, remember the mk1 focus RS coming back same h

  • Nice to see a Reviewer that seems to know about cars & the previous model.   & maybe not reviewing in a way that is up VW's backside. http://pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=31279

Actually the Car Trade are concerned at the Lease / PCP / Fleet vehicles arriving back now after 3 years and Used Car Sales being poor,

because new are so cheap.

So the VWG are living for the moment,

Cash Rich and wanting sales and using financial clout & Wealth, while they are expecting Global Bad times.

The Car Trade & UK Car Trade is due for a big change because the Used Market is pretty Crap.

Expect a Diesel Scrappage scheme soon,

it is Building up to that now, Media Coverage on Emissions etc,  Government /EU Spin.

Get rid of Diesels, roll out the Petrols.   JIMO.

Most Expensive RRP about the same as a 2015 Polo GTI 1.8TSI

(Peugeot 308SW maybe better engines and an option.)

Its the principle that puts me off. Driving round in a nice new polo gti would be lovely, but i wouldnt like to hand it back after 4 years having paid £10,500 then once I've handed the car back I've got nout.

I think I'll just stick to the saving game. You get that 'its mine' feeling too, and the peace of mind that if i couldnt work tomorrow, i wouldnt end up in dept or have the car taken a way.

Just thinking outloud here haha

If you paid £20k for a polo GTI and drive it for 4 years then sold it for 10k..... You've still "lost" 10k with "nothing to show" for it.

You are still paying for the priveledge of driving the car no matter the finance method. Only difference with cash is you will save on the interest charges. :-)

The reality is the vast majority of people part-ex and use equity built-up to roll over on the next deal rather than hand it in and walk.

For me personally having a car on PCP doesn't make it feel any less "mine". I can still drive it when I want and how I want and wherever. I'm not interested in going mad on track or mods in it so that aspect isn't an issue. I could ring up BMW this afternoon and pay off my M135i in full if I so wished but it wouldn't make me like the car any more. I'd rather have that lump sum available in my account for other purposes. In fact is probably enjoy the car less as I'd be far more paranoid about it lol!

End of the day it's horses for courses and all that! :-)

I like your thinking. I posted the deal as it looked quite reasonably and may generate some interest with people on here.

Thats true tom.

Also the money could be invested in something else and actually make you money..

9 Bars make a good return,

and you can drive a STI, RS4 or the likes until they seize your assets.

These are decent deals although they are based on 5k miles per annum and the polo gti is over 48 months, so you will have 1 year out of warranty unless you hand back early.

I'm all for PCP, my MK1 VRS was on HP (which I never finished paying) and since then it's been PCP. It's worked out well for me, and unless I become IT director anytime soon (LOL) I will be continuing to buy/rent/lease on PCP!

I never feel that the car isn't mine, if you have a mortgage, technically the house isn't yours. But you still call it your house.

My name and address is on the V5, that's good enough for me!

I'm kicking myself, that GTI deal is pretty stonking!

Yanno what i mean though. That sense of achievement you get when youve saved for something for so long n you finally go n buy it.

The skint again cos all the moneys gone haha

I know what you mean, I keep mulling it over and getting tempted to swap our vRS for one! Who needs a big boot anyway...... Lol

Not so sure on this road tester.  Staying on one side of a road (test Road) is a bit of a test to how cars might handle.

ie get around a bend in your own lane without crossing white lines.

He also needs to maybe find out about the cars he road tests a bit more.

'XDS' on the Polo GTI 1.4 TSI was different, and the sister cars was one Hold of the TC Off.

'XDS+' on the 2015 Polo GTI has more choices, especially with the DSG.

The 2015 Polo GTI Manual and the DSG have different official torque figures.

**They both are 192 ps,

but the Manual 1.8 TSI Euro 6 emission engine has 320 Nm

& the 7 Speed DSG 250 Nm (184 lb ft) of torque.**

As to MINI vs Polo, mention of the standard 205 width tyres on the MINI & 215 on the Polo seems relevant.

No idea from his Review if the Mini had optional Wider Tyres fitted.

But then even on 205's it does handle better IMO, but traction is an issue in the wet.

Also the 1.4 TSI Twincharger had the Battery in the Boot for better weight distribution and no Spare Wheel as Standard,

while the Battery went in the Engine Compartment of the Skoda, and 25 kg Ballast Weights were added to the rear of the hatch a Spare was added as standard to make it heavier than the 4 sister Twinchargers.

Vorsprung Durch Technik.

VW is so misunderstood, they only have the Buyers best interest at heart. If you pay more, it must be faster than a Skoda or Seat.  Well by Volkswagen Group Official figures, and that is all that Motoring Journalists & Editors will repeat and publish for years to come.

PS

Mention of the Automatic options would have been good, 6 speed on the MINI, 7 Speed Automated Manual DSG on the VW.

The Extra Weight or not, and the reduced torque with the VW 1.8 TSI - DSG with 250 Nm not 320 Nm.

& Prices of the cars with the 6 Speed Auto or 7 Speed DSG

& its was odd that Auto Express got a 5 Door MINI but VW could not have put up a 5 Door Polo GTI just to get a proper comparison,

because the weights are different. VORSPRUNG DURCH TECHNIK. (Name is Billy not Silly.)

Or Auto Express could just have got a 3 Door Mini, because again, real world the weight is different.

Jeez is the boot really only 204L on the polo? That's tiny!

  • 2 weeks later...

The Battery was also in the boot of the Polo GTI 1.4TSI,  not for room in the Engine Compartment,

but for better weight distribution. (& the Cover for it & the Spare Wheel which fiited on top were Optional Extras)

If he had bothered to ask last time when testing the previous model why the VW & Seat handled differently from the Skoda other than because they had wider tyres, yet the same Mechanicals, suspension etc. he might have noticed the Battery in the Boot.

Then he could have asked Skoda/VW why the Skoda had a Spare wheel as standard & 25kg Ballast bolted to the rear crash bar making the front end steering light yet it still weighed less than the Polo & Seat.

Never got round to removing the 25 Kgs of re-balancing weights (to take account of battery move to engine bay) I have in the Fabia 2 VRS hatchback, wish they we easier remove.  Probably worth 0.1 off the 0-60.

Carry a full sized spare, jack, brace so car does not lift passenger rear wheel, not trying hard enough clearly.

Drove a 15 reg with 1500 miles on it today

Very impressed. Build as expected, very clean dash, felt quick. Compared to the fiesta st I would say less hard core, less like a go cart. It handled well on std suspension.

I am having fun making my decision on a second car or replacement if I go that route

If I go 2nd car I will have to drive the gti and st again.

I prefer the inside of the polo, outside of the st. Directness of the st but ride of the polo

Engine both were good, but can't help thinking a 1.8 would have better running options out of warranty

Polo felt like it would feel fresher for longer

It is a great choice and with dtd offers reasonable value

I thought that

330 litres in my fabia hatch, and 270 litres in my mums run around 2005 polo.

Although thats a htp aswel. Not the lovely 1.8 tsi 150.

A bit better from a New Polo GTI 1.8 TSI DSG in a straight line.

I see the cheapest S1 @ £21200(?) LOOKS TO HAVE BEEN SOLD !! WONDER IF IT WAS ONE OF OUR MEMBERS?

Next Cheapest Now :http://www.audi.co.u...se_na_re_£21990

Should have been £20600(?)sold for approx.

It would be interesting to see JD's S1 with DTUK box on it(285 bhp), in straight line drag. Or in std mode for that matter.

Having said that he is asking £27500 for his fully loaded car.

Apology there appears to be a problem with the VW website used links.

Will try and sort it later.
