Featured Replies

Seems from Autocar that the polo gti now has the 1.8 rather than the 1.4.

Interesting move.

  • The depreciation is the same though no matter if cash or PCP. If you paid £20k for a polo GTI and drive it for 4 years then sold it for 10k..... You've still "lost" 10k with "nothing to show" for it

  • Peugeot were adamant no GTI badeg ever again.  remember the 208 GTi launch.   Ford dumped the RS badge after the dissapointment of the RS1800 and RS2000, remember the mk1 focus RS coming back same h

  • Nice to see a Reviewer that seems to know about cars & the previous model.   & maybe not reviewing in a way that is up VW's backside. http://pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=31279

Yeah,

But not to be in Fabia mk3 -yet!

Should be the replacement at least for the vRS.

Skoda miss out again from the VAG parts bin!

A great move, far more reliable longer term and responds very well to remaps (245bhp and 280lb/ft torque!) Should be a proper little rocket. :)

And just as importantly... a manual box option. :)

I got told this a few weeks ago that vw/audi was moving to the 1.8 again

so funny seeing all the people mentioning manual as a great idea, but for me it will be DSG all the way.  Theres no way the VRS won;t happen if the Gti has been given go ahead. I'd expect an announcement come January/February.

Hope that you are right.

It may take a little longer than you think ! I reckon it may take a couple of years even

That's ok because equally, I find it funny hearing people say they would prefer the lack of involvement and dampening down of the whole hot hatch experience with a preference of a semi automatic gearbox. ;)

If they announce a MK3 VRS with the 1.8t and DSG only I won't be disappointed. Heck given the choice I'd pick DSG over manual if there was a choice.....which there isn't....

So it's Audi S1 -230 BHP petrol

Then Polo GTI - 190 BHP petrol

So will it be  Fabia vRD -150 /184 BHP Diesel?

I really like that Polo, particularly the interior; maybe I'm just old fashioned! I retire in 4 years so this has just gone to the top of my retirement purchase list - plenty of time for that to change though!

Just read that the next gen Polo GTi about to be unveiled will have a 1.8tsi replacing the 1.4. Coupled with either a manual or DSG box.

Shame Skoda don't plan to make a Fabia MK3 VRS!

Is this the same 1.8T lump as before or the newer TFSi jobbie thats been floating about the Leon/Golf range for a while?

Sounds like a bloody good plan too.

Best model for me is the 1.8t GTI.

I think the twincharger engine has probably put off more people than some perhaps realise

It's a brilliant engine and only a small amount of failures! Ermm yeah right :P

Enough failures to put me off and god knows how many more tbh.

My uncle said its known quite well as a lemon. Hes into his golf GTI's

Hence me keeping mine. It's been worked probably harder than most vRS's has been over the last 3 years and harder than any car I've ever owned and while it's had the odd niggle it's been fantastic. But of course it's just a lemon :dull:

Almost as funny as trying to turn a high-riding boxy SUV into a performance machine.  ;)

fella if you are buying or are after a hot hatch the Fabia is the wrong car in first place.....lol. (going to get flamed for this)  Thats why i had  until a couple of weeks back and will have another EP3 shape Civic Type R in about 2 weeks time ( as well as my Fabia of course), something of that ilk is involvement, one of all-time best gearshifts, no ESP no Traction control, just you and the car and your right foot ,  as for involvement DSG is is still involved if you are using it in manual.  You do know most new super and hyper cars are flappy paddle including race cars.  Have you ever watched a WRC car and said, oh theres no involvement.

It's hardly surprising they have ditched the 1.4tsi engines with their unreliability track record and failure history, it's been a sour debacle which has cost them loads.

No, its the newer 16v TSi lump, based on the 2.0 etc.   Comes with the 7 speed DSG too which will help MPG ( circa 50mpg combined  on other cars)

Almost as funny as trying to turn a high-riding boxy SUV into a performance machine.  ;)

I wouldn't refer to it as a performance machine but then I guess that's down to what other cars you are used to driving but thanks for the (OT) comment.

Yes, Its the new EA888 1.8 as seen in the latest Leon, A3 etc and also makes an appearance in the Octavia L&K afaik. Great engine, moved on nicely from the generation 2 1.8TSi that I run in the Yeti and (just like the EA888 2 litre units) responds really well to tuning. My guess however is that the new Fabia wont be seeing this unit as it seems to be appearing in MQB chassis cars only - not something that the new Fabia 3 will be based on sadly. Its possible it could get the 1.4TSi ACT (as seen in the Polo BlueGT/Seat Ibiza FR) so 150ps and 185lb/ft but maybe tuning slightly higher... who knows but it'll be interesting to see, that's if they even produce anything that pokey at all.
