Columbus and Maxidot

Nope...... We're definitely going to need a little extra info... ;)

Are you sure?  I've got both in my car and it gives me all the info I need...

Is the title suggesting that Christopher Columbus was using maxidot on his travels...?

I'll try again...

I was getting a database error when I tried to post.

Can anyone with a Columbus confirm that the volume level appears on the Maxidot when you adjust it with the steering wheel controls?

Also, does it appear whatever mode the Maxidot is in?

I'm sure mine used to do this but it doesn't now.

The dealer replaced my Columbus after I had some problems, but the new one seems to be worse...

The volume level does appear in the maxidot for whatever volume level you are adjusting (radio, travel news, phone etc)

I think it does it whatever screen mode it is in too.

I've not got Columbus only Amundsen in my car, but I have noticed that sometimes when I change the volume that it doesn't display on the maxidot but does on the system display itself. I've always got the Average fuel consumption screen up on the maxidot, I usually flick through other screens before turning it back to the average. So it's not a case of it sometimes not appearing due to being on another screen. I find I notice it only when I've started driving the car, within the first couple of minutes. I'd been taking it as a quirk of the entertainment system (I wondered if it was possibly due to the system still booting up and getting itself running fully rather than a fault).

Thanks for the confirmation, I just wanted to double-check.

I'm building a list of problems with the new Columbus including static sound on start up, unexplained reboot, unexpectedly switching between sdcards and no sound on start up. It's looking like it's going back to the dealer again after they kept it for a week last time. :@

Thanks for the reply, but I noticed it on mine after driving it for about half an hour. I've just remembered that it didn't appear on the Columbus screen either. It did appear on the screen if I used the volume knob, but still not on the Maxidot.

Not good...

What SW version have you got on the new Columbus?

I'm still arguing with my dealer - my Columbus has been replaced, the old one was

So, as you can see a lower software version. It has all kinds of issues - DAB Station Logos not displaying, Album Art when playing from USB doesn't show (it uses the inbuilt crappy out of date Gracenote database - exactly the same files from SD card work fine) and loads of voice commands missing (Navigation Announcements On/Off for example). Also, I keep getting the navigation map freezing up, but voice instructions continue and the GPS position is updating.

It has been back twice to have the software updated but has failed to update on both occasions!

A new one is now on factory back order.

If you adjust the volume on the infotainment it shows it on that screen or if you adjust it on the steering wheel it shows it on the Maxidot but it should never show it on both at the same time

My Columbus and Dot Matrix show volume as a green line across the top of the screen both show together but if scrolling screens on Dot Matrix the image is fall size of screen until you stop on your selected screen (Dot Matrix) then it drops to normal! size and shows all other info in top and bottom bar.

Mine's working again today and shows the same thing. I'd assumed it would show on both although I don't remember so I'm probably wrong.

Andyvee - Mine's showing a hardware version of H41 and software 0202. The album art is working fine on the USB and it displays the DAB logos.

I have a nasty feeling it's going to have a range of small intermittent faults.

I just watched your video. That's not the A45 junction of the M42 near Birmingham is it?

Yep, NEC Junction. It freezes every time at that Junction, but it has done it elsewhere as well.

Yep, DAB logos work fine on 0202, that is what mine was on before Simpsons replaced it with one with older software that they couldn't upgrade, and neither could another dealer.

You get DAB logos?! Must be my puny Amundsen preferring to show grey boxes

I got DAB and FM logo's on my Amundsen !

Only on presets though, which isn't what I am talking about.

Oh..so where else do the logo's appear then?

In the DAB Station views.

Try tuning to BBC WS - and changing the view on DAB - the logo will appear before your eyes!

You don't get the same View settings on FM, but you are correct, you can assign logos to DAB and FM presets. In theory, the logos you assign to DAB presets will also display in the other DAB views (unless you are on software 01xx on a Columbus when none of this works!)

I'll have a look..cheers Andy

Yep - try the Station Info or Slideshow view on DAB

In the UK BBC WS are about the only station that broadcast their logo OTA (over the air) on DAB - you will have to manually load the others to presets for it to work

Some fettling to be done then!! Keep me busy tomorrow afternoon
