Leaving lights on AUTO?

Featured Replies

Went into the garage this morning and unlocked the car and the headlights/rear lights came on for about 15 seconds.

Strange.

Got in to find I'd left the light switch on AUTO.

I assume that the lights go off after a certain amount of time on that setting otherwise I'd have had a flat battery.

So I'm guessing (with winter approaching) I can just leave the light switch set to AUTO and everything else takes care of itself?

Yes, auto lights give a brighter coming/leaving home function if the car thinks it is dark, mine does this in the garage too.

In all my cars with auto lights the switch has never left the Auto position - why would you ever feel the need to turn them off/force them on?

Other than switching them on in fog there's no other reason to switch them out of Auto.

I always found they came on in fog anyway... And that is with them set to 'Late' mode as well, so the least sensitive.

Coming/leaving home function , enable, disable, change timing in setup.

I've never found auto light to work in fog unless it's dark too and mine are set to early.

I'm sure you can leave it in auto an just pull out the switch for fogs, never used to be able to on previous VAG cars but I'm sure you on the O3

You can turn the coming home and leaving home lights off using the infotainment system.

Under lights there is a section for coming and leaving home lights, set the time to 0 and the lights will be turned off.

On my elegance, leaving the light switch on auto not only turns the lights on and off when needed it also enables auto wipers when used in conjunction with the wiper switch.  Set the lights to auto and move the wiper switch to the first setting and you have auto wipers,

Lights always set to auto, they've never come on whilst it's been foggy just pulled the switch to set fogs on!

Another fun game is to see how many people in multi storey tell you have left your lights on. By the time you say "no I haven't" and look back, they've gone out :-)

That and the number of people that run up and say your car is still running as the fans are on due to a DPF re-gen!

Indeed you can, something they've added which is v useful.

my lights are always on auto although have found they do seem to be on a lot of the time when I wouldn't manually have turned them on auto light sensor is a bit too sensitive maybe?
