Fabia vrs Recall?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

i was wondering whether there has ever been any sort of recall by skoda on the fab vrs

personally i think that the rear squeaky brakes and gear lever rattle should be fixed by skoda under a recall, i have these problems and lots of other on here also

just wondering on everyone elses thoughts on this matter

cheers

doubt it as it's not a safety issue. Only recall that there has been was the fuel pump recall that effected 1.9PD's built between whenever to whenever. Cant remember what the date was but it's in the fabia secton

A recall is the manufacturer holding his hands up and reaching for the sky with his pants round his ankles. They don't like it.

It costs money and gives bad press.

As Mike says they are normally reserved for safety items.

As has been noted recalls only refer to safety issues.

There appears only to have been one recall on a Fabia - as follows:

Recall Ref:R2001/060Exact Model:Description:PASSENGER AIRBAG CONCERNVIN:VARIOUSBuild Date:10th November 2000Numbers:10Defect:The passenger airbag may not release correctly because of a leak in the pressure reservoir of the gas generator.Action:Recall the affected vehicles and replace the passenger airbag.Launch Date:11 May 2001

Hence none on a Fabia vRS.

HOWEVER...

The fact that there's not been an official recall doesn't mean that there aren't known faults with known fixes.

Once you reported these matters to your dealer were they sorted efficiently under warranty?

I can't commnent since my 13,000 mile vRS hasn't had any problems...

The rear brakes are a known problem and I have had mine sorted out, They can be fixed by hopefully any Skoda dealer, the gear lever rattle can also be fixed, I had the cables replaced in mine and this fixed the issue.

HTH

Wasn't there a recall for all early PD engines to do the injection pump bolts?

Yep

Reference : R/2004/215

Manufacturer Ref : 20L2

Make: SKODA

Model : FABIA,OCTAVIA, OCTAVIA 11,SUPERB (WITH 2 VALVE PUMP INJECTOR ENGINE)

Launch Date : 17/02/2005

Numbers Involved : 6032

Build Start Date : 01/03/2004

Build End Date : 31/08/2004

Details

Concern : BOLTS OF THE TANDEM FUEL PUMP COVER MAY BREAK

Description : It is advised that, on some vehicles fitted with a 3 and 4 cylinder pump injector engine, the bolts of the tandem fuel pump cover may break due to a bolt production fault. As a result, the pump housing will not be tight, and a diesel fuel leak may occur.

Remedial Action : Recalled vehicles will have the pump checked for being of a certain manufacture. If found to be within the affected range, the pump housing cover bolts will be replaced.

Most of the time safety recalls are the only ones flagged up 'in public', the rest will quietly be done by dealers during servicing, I would have thought, or when a complaint is made (rear brake thing, the gear lever vibration thing, amongst those I would say)

Beware this one, as mine was affected, even tho it wasnt in the affected build dates

For information the single recall I posted earlier in this thread was sourced through the route I knew, the AA website. The VOSA site shows 2 recalls, the one above plus the airbag issue. Clearly the AA website isn't showing all relevant recalls...

'Holy Thread rivial'

Im trying to get to the bottom of some issues with my 04 plate fabia VRS that was subjected to this recall. My car has seemed underpowered of late. It used to throw out a bit of black smoke under hard acceleration but this felt right and the car went very well, now this is no smoke at all and feels very lean. I have replaced obvious things like MAF, leaking egr ect but it is still the same, pretty flat pulling away, where as before you could literally rip the tyres to threads if you so wished, not that i like too. Does anyone think this could be a fuel pump issue? does a newer VRS have a better pump i can retrofit?. vosa mention the recall was to check for a certain manufacture of pump. What are the signs of a knackered fuel pump or does it just die?. I have tried deisel injector cleaner to do avail, the engine does not sound the same anymore, its more tingy and less deep sounding :(. Im gonna get it into skoda to check for boost and vacuume leaks. Can you have a boost leak that reduces your smoke output?. A few questions there, any help most appreciated.

the recall was for the tandem pump faulty bolts which allow it to leak diesel onto the coolant hose says bolts to be replaced which begs the question what did they do for a gasket (not available)
