2008 Skoda Octavia 1.8 TSI Laurin & Klement 5-Dr Estate - CAM BELT ?

Featured Replies

Hi

New to the forums  just a quick question which is a stupid question perhaps (but only if you don't know the answer) - I have just purchased a 2008 1.8 TSI - looks like a fair bit of car for the money to replace my decent but too expensive for me leased BMW 320D - it has a Skoda dealer history but no record of new cam belt which given age would appear to be due unless of course its chain driven which I know the new model is but not sure about the this older model. Link to car below any info gratefully received.

Thanks

The 1.8 TSI has a cam chain so no belt to change.

However, although the chain itself doesn't normally need changing it is worth knowing that the hydraulic chain tensioner can fail allowing the chain to potentially slip out of time causing severe engine damage. If you haven't already got one it may be worth considering purchasing a warranty. There is a sticky at the top of this forum relating to this potential issue.
