Hi guys. Just had mot & 'small ' service (note to self: must enroll in car maintenance evening class very soon...) . Garage said cam belt may need doing too...I dug out past bills and it was last done in 2009 at 63000 miles. Its now done 120000. Am I living on borrowed time? Estimated cost?? Have horrible feeling it may involve selling all wordly possessions or at very least buying ticket for euromillions rollover tomorrow and going all religious. Advise please. Thanks

It should be between two and three hundred quid all in, get a few quotes but it's best to use an independent VW specialist if possible.

 

Are wordly possessions books? If so going for option 3 will mean you'll only need to keep one, can lead to a slightly narrow world-view and interesting people will tend to avoid you socially. Option 2 is just plain silly, engage maximum improbability drive!

Thanks sepulchrave! Am a librarian so can sell all posessions other than books! But you didnt actually answer the qustion! Lol. IE do I need to get it done asap or even yesterday or do I have a bit of wriggleroom to save my pennies?!

You can infer that it really needs doing ASAP from this reply.

4 years or 60k interval on the pd engines so yes long overdue if it was last done 2009

PD engines really can't wait for cam belts, they snap without warning trashing the entire top end effectively writing the car off.
