Engine vibrations through pedals and steering wheel

Featured Replies

Where are the problem cars based?

I finally got a test drive of another 2.0 TDi at a different dealer. The car had 12k on the clock and was an SE hatch. However, I was primarily concerned with engine vibration and by comparison my car is much worse. There was a small amount between 1250-1500 rpm on the test car but that's it. It even sound quieter in the cabin. The dealer will be contacting Skoda UK to pick up the case where it was left off and go from there. Hopefully, there will be a solution for it but I'm not holding my breath. I also mentioned that when parked on a steepish slope, when starting the engine there is occasionally a clatter from under the car. It almost sounds like the exhaust pipe is rattling against some other metal part or bodywork.

In terms of the engine isolation, road noise, gearbox and drivetrain, this is the least refined car I have driven to date.

Any update?

The car is booked in 27th Nov for them to investigate.

The dealer investigated the issues I reported and found a problem with the rear exhaust mounts/brackets as there was a clatter on start up when parked on a slope facing up or down. They also said they re-torqued the engine mount bolts but it had little effect. I would suggest that it has actually made things slightly worse and the steering seem to feel slightly heavier since. So now I have a car that's viby from 1250 rpm upwards. Couple that with the booming cabin noise and it doesn't make for a great drive. Although nothing has categorically failed yet, the inherent problems continually make me think I made a grave error in purchasing this car. Based on this experience, I will sadly have to say that I would not consider another car from the VAG, inc Skoda and Seat.

Skoda CS will be calling me to see how things have progressed. I can only inform them that they haven't! What next?

Tell Skoda CS you want it fixing or you'll reject the car. They need to get one of their engineers/area technical managers to drive it and look at it.

Personally I've found the Octavia 3 diesel to have the least noise and vibration of any previous similar class of diesel car I have driven, so unless your expectations are way off the scale, it would appear your car has a fault.

I'm really sad to hear that your car wasn't fixed. I was hoping yours was fixed and then ask here to skoda to apply the same solution. So far I think I'll have to sell my car, because the vibration problem is not a minor issue, my hands get numb for an hour or two after I drive it and now I feel more vibrations thru the pedals.  I have to add new problems: the trunk doesn't close at the first try, the stereo had become crazy a couple of times and 3 or 4 times I felt a scratching sound when I move the gear from P to D... and all of those problems are in a new car, bought few months ago!!, What can I expect from now on if I keep it? I'm very disappointed from skoda and VAG, I did a research before I bought the car and everyone said it was a very good car.

Have you reported these things to your dealer or SUK?

Did this get resolved? I have what seems to be the exact same situation with an 08 pd 140 Octavia II, and will be taking it to skoda next week to see what they say.

DMF at a guess on a PD140.

Many people reported the same problem and nobody gave any info whether it has been fixed and what caused the problem.

Does anyone can share some good news on this topic ?

Is there a solution or we should live with it ?

I've never had a serious answer from skoda about the vibrations, so after several problems:

- front-right shock absorber leaking before 15k miles (not covered by warranty) USD$300

- parking break button broken before 15k miles (covered by warranty, but I had to wait a month and drive without parking break)

- trunk door didn't close at the first or second try, they tried to fix it, but they never really could

- rattles on the sunroof, dashboard and other parts from the car

- noise from the back left shock absorber or breaks (I don't know)

- stereo button light burned

- ...and the diesel scandal which according to skoda my 1.6 tdi wasn't affected but I don't believe them

I sold my car and I lost a lot of money, but fool me once, shame on you (skoda), fool me twice (3,4,5), shame on me..... so never again skoda or VAG group

Hi,

My Octavia TDI 2.0 DSG Elegance 2015 model with 15'000 Km on the counter experiences also some vibrations in the steering wheel but not as heavy as you do, from what I could guess after reading this topic.

I haven't done nything so far because I think this happens mainly when the engine performs regeneration. This is what I observed over the past 11 months.

Hope it helps

Hi Guys,

I found the solution in my case and I believe it should be similar for you. First of all it is important what kind of journeys you do and second the way you drive.

After I did one long journey around 2k miles on relatively high engine revs 2200 - 2300 all the time (used 5th gear very often if the revs on 6th gear were below 2k) the problem was gone.

Before I had awful vibrations in the steering wheel and my driving experience has completely changed after the long journey :)

I don't want to draw conclusions, but for me all the problems are coming from the DPF.

Cheers!
