faster car

Featured Replies

Hi everyone how can I make my car go faster,it's a diesel octavia vrs,it has already had a bluefin fitted, just wondering if there's anything else I could do to improve performance. Cheers John. .

Read the "Racing and Advanced Driving" sub-forum above? ;)

What kind of Faster?

Better Acceleration, higher top speed, & for the track or the road.

Cheapest performance modification is make it lighter.

Easiest way to go faster is put the throttle down and do not lose traction, it is probably already good for 120 mph plus

if the engine is all serviced and running well.

Request to Mods to move it to the relevant Octi section where there are probably lots of suitable threads already.

Weight reduction will net you massive gains, other than that you are getting into the dark and murky world of turbocharging, possibly an upgrade and a decent map plus more efficient intercooling could do the trick.

Hybrid turbo / bigger turbo

Fmic

Uprated clutch

Decent exhaust

Remap

Look into darkside developments.

Or an easier route would be to sell up and buy a 330/335d bmw or an audi 3.0l tdi of some sorts

Fit a vRS TSI engine and get it mapped LOL......

It all depends how deep your pockets are.

Ad if you've got bottomless pockets, lend it to Bossfox for a year.

We're not going to advocate street racing (against site rules, and common sense) but if you want a better power/weight than a Leon Cupra, the fastest, cheapest and easiest way is to buy a different car.

Being a 2012 you have the CR engine, so a remap will see around 210bhp and a dpf delete and a few little other mods might see 230bhp or so.

Over that it's going to get very expensive, so upgrading to a faster car is far more cost effective.

You have to remember what the Octavia VRS diesel is, an A road/M way family car with a bit of extra zip.

A Cupra is designed to have much more zip as standard and is easier to modify to make it quicker too.

DPF delete would make it MOT failure though?

Thanks for the reply lads ,I'm going to have a look at a cupra r.c if the wife will let me swap.

Another option is to "race" on your terms. Instead of just being faster, make the race about who can get a load from one place to another the quickest, then make sure the load is just slightly too large to fit in his car.

The point being that your car may be slower, but it's has more capabilities. Acknowledge and appreciate it for what it is. If you replace the car for a faster one you are just admitting that his car was the better one.

Anyway, for a faster car:

1. Make sure all systems (engine, gearbox, suspension, brakes) are repaired, maintained, working well, and are capable of meeting the demands placed on them (ie, no cheap brake pads on the track). On an older car this can make a bigger difference than thousands in mods.

2. Good tyres. Even in a drag race, good tyres will improve your performance, and on a road track they are your best value mod.

3. Lose weight. Remove anything you don't need (provided you can put it back without much fuss). Be careful if you decide to remove seats or interior panels as they may contain airbag components.

4. Bolt-on engine mods. Intake, exhaust, tuning, boost increase.

5. Bolton suspension mods. Springs, shocks, small geometry changes.

6. Major surgery.

In addition to No. 4 -

Plastic Bucket Forced Induction Kit from a Clio instead of standard Airbox??

Couldn't resist throwing that in too!

Yeah, of course, but he said bolt on mods not shove on.

I always find if you remove the aerial from the roof it will make the car go about 2% faster due the the wind drag not hitting the aerial and slowing the car down.

Also, weight loss is quite good so get some Slimfast drinks poured down the nozzle with your next fill up of Diesel V Power.

P.S

Don't forget to take of the dust caps to reduce a little more weight :)

And remember that air weighs too so let all of that out and you'll be flying.

Also empty the diesel tank and take of the taxi signs as they weigh too ;)

And as discussed somewhere on here previously - only fill the tyres with v-power air. None of this standard air nonsense. ;-)

Aero wiper blades add at least an extra 5mph to the top speed too.
