Is it possible to retrofit front parking sensors

Featured Replies

This is a thing I really need , so I'll appreciate any help from you. Is it possible to retrofit OEM parking sensors (front and side) ? I already have the rear sensors but I forgot to list the front sensors when ordering the car ...I have a VCDS if that matters , but HOW ?

Anybody , please?   :(

Your dealer should offer this posibility, hoverwer the price should be probably twice for what you would pay if you took this option from the start, because you also need a new bumper + the work etc..

Hi

I have been asking the same question. When I had my towbar fitted, I noticed they also fit parking sensors. On asking them if they could fit them, and price. When they check up and got back to me. Yes they can, but it can not be linked into the display, so you just get the bleeps. The sensors are linked to the ingnition and on all the time the ingnition is. They do fit switch to turn them, as they can be effected by rain! They fit front senors to a lot of BMW, Audi, etc and you don't need a new bumper. I have been thinking of fitting them into the lower front grill , so will not be seen and don't need to be colour coded.

And the price they quoted me was £260 fitted, which I think is very reasonable.

Steve

They will not switch off because the £260 quote is for a simple aftermarket 3rd party kit. You should, assuming the PDC controller supports front and rear sensor be able to fit the factory sensors into the module, so you would need the factory loom and sensors,  plus some VCDS coding. Chances are the bumper is the same regardless of sensors or not, and the holes would simply need to be drilled out. Going OEM will mean the sensors deactivate automatically once driving forward once 5kmh is reached and then not activating again until Reverse is selected. OEM will cost more, but will be better than aftermarket.

One thing is for certain, either will cost more than adding it as a factory option from the original order.

Going OEM will mean the sensors deactivate automatically once driving forward once 5kmh is reached and then not activating again until Reverse is selected.

For what it's worth, the parking sensors remain active until going > 10mph (or, at least, they do in my car). The other point I'd make is that not having the button to turn the sensors on manually does, as you say, mean you're going to have to put the car in reverse to activate them, and if you're simply driving forward into a space that's going to be a bit of a pain.

Hi

Now that looks good, if it interfaces with the cars electronics. At 349 euros, which is about £300, looks a far better option than my quote. We need "andtvee's" opion on if it's possible to code ?

Over to you Andy

Steve

That looks like all the kit needed, including the OEM button!

If you go for it and need a hand I'm up for helping out with the coding if you run in to problems. It would have to be half way between Cambridge and Manchester though :)

Oh, and I've bought a few things from carsystems.pl over the years and never had a problem with them, pretty quick delivery as well.

Andy

Many many thanks for your input. I will now look into purchasing it, and getting the sensors fitted. I will have words with the company that did the work on my tow bar.

But I am UP for a trip Manchester see the master of VCDS!!, to get the coding sorted.

Again many thanks Andy. Will be in touch.

Steve

I'm very interested in hearing the outcome of this project!

Is there any news? Anybody who has the courage to do it?
