Just upgraded to a '59 FL vRS 2.0 TSI - any common problems?

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I have just upgraded my Mk1 Octavia vRS to a '59 FL Mk2 2.0 TSI with 30k on it, and i wondered if it had any common things to be aware of like the Mk1 had - stuff like the water pump having a plastic impeller and needing replacing and so on.

I have read the thread about TSI engine failures so I am aware of the chain tensioner, but aprt from that there doesn't seem to be much in the way of buyers guides for this model.

Anything I need to get checked out?

Thanks

Hi Andy,

I have done just over 41000 miles in 5 years, so not a lot of mileage I suppose... the only things I had done/replaced under warranty (when I had it) was:

windscreen milky de-lamination at the bottom.

bolero stereo required new firmware so I didn't have to wait 20 odd secs for the SD card to play music.

renewed handbrake sliding gaiter as causing stiff travel

boot skoda badge

I am sure the only repair I have paid for in the 2 years since the warranty finished is a gearbox output seal replacement, also noticed a small drip of oil from the bellhousing.

I have occasionally since year 1 had clutch squeal when say reversing up a steep incline even before remap..

not affected me but there is mention of rear wiper motors failing...

hope it helps...

Thanks for the info. Did you have to get a dealer to do the firmware update or could you download it yourself?

When did you get the boot badge replaced ? Mines a bit snuffed and it's only 3 years old ?

The only major issue i've had on mine has been the death of the clutch bearing. Not an expensive part, but the labour required to sort it can be fairly pricey. Very obvious to know when it's done as you'll hear a metal squealing noise when on the biting point of the clutch to release.

Apparently it's common on the Golf GTI MK6 as well

no I had the dealer do it... although it took a few goes to convince them to do it! kept telling me that it was the SD card quality and size even though I had given them links to here about the problem and there was a fix available  :wall: ...!

I think I had mine replaced on my last service (3yr point) whilst under warranty... tried to get the front done too at the time  but they wouldnt have it as it had just started peeling... 2 years on it looks naff now!

Keep a eye on the rear spoiler for blistering & the laquer peeling off, also check the rear tyres for wear on the inside edge.

Thanks, will have a read of that. I was hoping to get a Haynes manual but it appears they don't make one for this model.
