New to these parts.

 

I'm Simon. Based in North West of England.

 

Just picked up my first Skoda last week, a 2006/56 Octavia 2.0 TDI 140 DSG in silver. Very pleased with the car so far.

 

Had a few VAG cars previously, named a 2004 Bora 1.9 TDI S, a 2004 SEAT Ibiza 1.9 TDI Cupra, and then a 2012 VW Passat 2.0 TDI.

 

Enjoyed owning them all so a VAG engined car was the obviously choice.

 

Loving the Skoda so far. DSG a bit of a change for me too to keep things interesting!

Hawkley's only 5- 10 mins away from me though. Are you somewhere behind the Ben Johnson - that's HH isn't it?

Sorry - should've posted a bit more about why I went for the Octy perhaps!

 

Recently set up business on my own and as such had to give my company car Passat back. Kind of gutted as was nice driving round in a new-ish car (with someone else paying for tyres, servicing etc!).

 

Decided to not go mad and set myself a budget of £8k. Looked the usual - Golfs, Passats, Octavias, Seat Exeos etc and look at some weird and wonderful stuff - Fiat Panda 4x4 for site use and a Chrysler Delta (I would've re-badged it as a Lancia!).

 

Then one day heading out of Manchester I found myself looking at a brand new Land Rover Freelander. £4k deposit and £400 a month - forever. On the way home decided I wanted an off-roader for site use but a new Freelander was too much. So called at Skoda dealer at Eccles and looked at a used Yeti. Very nice.

 

Then I remember my mate runs a Skoda franchise elsewhere in the North West.

 

So quick call to him and he offered me a 57 plate 1.9 TDI Fabia with 82k on for £3200 instead of £4k that it was up for. Was quite interested but slightly concerned about the size as we have 3 young children (albeit the wife has a people carrier). Anyway, that car soon sold so I told him to keep his eyes peeled for an Octavia for my.

 

2 weeks later the perfect car landed for me. 2.0 TDI 140 DSG, in a colour that doesn't show dirt too badly, 2 owners, the first being Skoda UK for 6 months, the 2nd having bought the car from my mates place in early 2007, and had all it's work down there since. Including even spending £40 on an a/c re-gas just 2 months ago. Apparently chap was a stickler for detail and the car is mint, only done 62k. He's replaced it with a new one from same place so this was a PX.

 

Plan is to keep car for 18 months to 2 years - see how the mileage goes.

 

No real issues to date other than the struggle to start it when warm - which I believe is common issue. Dealer has had it back and done something with the software and put a new battery on it for me. Had a Citigo whilst it was in - great fun!

 

So far enjoying being a Skoda driver.

 

(Apart from my sister keep calling me 'Skoda man' which reminds me of an old chap near us years ago who had one of those old 'rear windscreen heater' Skodas that was the butt of all car-related jokes!)

Is there something distinguishing on your car that might give me a clue that it's you?

 

I'm all for having a local meet as per the other thread sometime - did it with the SEAT lads off SeatCupra.net a few times and good to hear what folk have done to their cars, or sorted out problems etc.

 

No real mod plans for mine really - it's not really that sort of car and I need it to look fairly corporate where possible! Might stick some white number plate lights on the back though - think they look quite smart.

Mines the only silver vrs estate in wigan as i know off. Itslowered as you cant miss the briskoda sticker if your behind me

Mine's a silver Elegance. 

 

Mine too is the only one in Wigan! (the only one without a 'Licensed to carry 4 persons' plate!).

Still going strong here folks!

 

Said my plan was to keep the car 12-18 months. 12 months is up soon and i've not intention of replacing it.

 

Had it serviced in March and the chap said it's in very good nick and there's plenty of life in the old girl yet. So going to keep 'her' going.

 

Contemplating becoming one of those folk that keeps their car running forever. A 9 yr old Skoda Octavia at 75k is surely only just run in??
