PCP Octavia Purchase

Featured Replies

Good Morning all,

Sorry if this question has been asked many times before but I’m a rookie when it comes to buying new cars and was after some advice with a PCP deal I’m looking to take out.

I am very interested in buying a new Skoda Elegance 1.6TDI through PCP and notice the Skoda offers at the moment are 0% APR and 3 years free servicing, I have a couple of questions with regards to this potential deal.

  • Om top of this deal and if my haggling skills are any good do you think Skoda will have room to offer any additional discount/extra’s on this car?
  • Also I will be doing close to 20K miles a year, does that mean the service deal I would receive will be applicable every 10K miles and roughly for a year and a half?

Thanks in advance folks.

Yes, i'm in the same situation, mine is a year old on Saturday and is going in for its 20k service on Monday so in another 6 months all my free services are gone and i'll be having it switched to variable servicing.

You can usually haggle a bit on price, but most of their wiggle room is used up by the 0% PCP and servicing.

You can still try and aim for around 5 - 6% off list price, especially if you are adding several options, that is about the maximum.

Try getting a quote from www.carwow.co.uk for the spec you are looking for, that should give an idea of the sort of prices you should be trying with your local dealer.

Discount wise, if you are going for the 0% expect to get about 6% maximum. Carwow.co.uk are good for getting some quotes quickly.

If you are after an estate there is a long lead time at the moment, hatch Elegance is about 12-14 weeks for a factory order, but there is some stock around as well.

Some spec changes will happen in about 3 weeks time, so a factory order may have additional or less on it than a stock car so make sure you know what you are ordering - it is rumoured that Front Assist will be standard on Elegance spec again and Adaptive Cruise available as an option.

Beat me to it!

If you have no trade in you could try the usual on line sites like car file and drive the deal to see what's available discout wise. There should be some wriggle room, but that will to some extent be dependent on when you look to sign up and how many cars the dealer you are negotiating with has sold (if they are trying to reach their targets towards the end of the month with some months like November and February being slow sales wise they will often be more propared to negotiate).

The servicing deal will be on the fixed program 12 months/10,000 miles which ever comes sooner, so yes your 3rd and final one would be about 18 months in, but you can get the dealer to switch you to variable servicing after that if you wish.

Thanks very much for the replies, much appreciated.

That was the other thing I was going to ask....  I am looking to get a car from stock and realise that the paint colour and spec of the car may not be to my taste, however would there be any difference with how Skoda see it neogtiating on a car from stock rather than factory order?

When neogtiating a price its the Salesperson and the dealer that you are dealing with and therefore, a stock car shouldn't have any bearing on the discount available however, if you're trying to avoid the waiting for a factory order you do lose the bargaining tool of saying "Oh well I'll just shop around then" when they won't price match an on-line quote site.

Kinda think its the old "wanting your cake & eat it" situation.

Think 'stock' vehicles are available to all Skoda main dealers? The ones coming over on a boat but not yet assigned to a customer etc.

Unless you are talking about a car actually on the forecourt of course, when you are stuck with that dealer!

Not sure a Salesperson will see it that way, wanting to jump the queue will lose you some bargaining power, full stop

Shouldn't I agree but, those Salespersons can be right little Tommy Tuckers

Well you may be right. I guess my point was there's nothing stopping you going to another dealer asking about that same 'stock' vehicle you were negotiating on with another dealer.

Whether or not you get a good deal is another question. In my experience I agreed a price with the dealer before looking at whether there were stock vehicles available, so it would have made no difference. However, that's a sample size of 1 so don't read too much into it :)

Hi, new to the forum and in a similar position.

A have however found and been offered amazing deals on factory build Otavia lll vRS TSI Estate by several online brokers? Are these too good to be true - they are very tempting? Does anyone have any experience of the likes of 'drivethedeal' , 'buyacar' or 'newcardiscount'? These guys are offering around £3500 discount on the car and a lead time of around 10 weeks.

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks

You can get that level of discount, but you won't get the low rate finance as well.

10 weeks is optimistic I would say, unless they already have some ordered and in the build queue.

I'm currently awaiting a new vrs tsi hatch via DriveTheDeal. They have been very good to deal with and even helped me out by calling the dealer when there was a mix up about the finance rate over which I had reached a stalemate with the dealer. DTD called them up straight away and managed to secure favourable terms.

I placed my order in early August and was told to expect a 14 week wait. 10 weeks later, it all seems to be running to time, I was called last Wednesday to let me know that the car has now been built and that I'll get another call when it arrives at the port in Grimsby in 2 to 3 weeks time.

The DTD prices are cash prices, if like me you wish to secure finance via the dealer, you may be offered either a smaller discount and a competitive rate or a large discount and a higher rate. I ended up agreeing to a 6.9% APR deal with a discount of a shade under £4k.

Only downside I can see is having to travel a long way to pick up the car. They pass your details to the dealership with which they managed to agree the biggest discount, which could be anywhere in the country. If you pay in cash I think they deliver to your home, but if you want finance, you have to travel to the dealership to sign the papers and pick up the car. For me it is a 150 mile journey which I will take on the train. The journey home should be a lot more fun though. :D

Of course you could try negotiating with a few of your local Skoda dealers to see if any will match or come close to the DTD price...

That pretty much sums it up!

I saw a lot of local dealers for test drives, then at the very end of quarter, got one of them to match the best Carwow offer I had, not quite the same discount but £1,930 off on the 0% gets you pretty close to £4k off on 6.9%.  If you can wait, end of quarter is when the dealerships may need sales, just gotta find one that does.

Thanks all,

The finance I'm being offered by the online brokers seems to be in line with the local dealer rate and therefore the total price paid at the end of the 3 year term still represents a sizeable discount.

Seems to be the way to go. Note the issue do delivery / collection but as CunningLinguist says, it will be a great drive home!

  • 2 weeks later...

I ordered my Octavia on PCP late last September but at that time there was zero UK stock left because of the 0% deals being offered and the deal I got was simply a case that the garage

could find one unallocated car literally just assembled in Elegance Spec but with the 1.6TD and not the 2.0TD with Winter Pack that I wanted, no colour choice either.

I took that car as I was in a bit of a fix as my poor old Mondeo Estate had just been written off by a rather careless driver rear ending it at speed whilst I was waiting at a junction!

But I got a poor deal, no discount whatsoever off of list price and a crafty trick from Skoda after ordering the car before the 0% deal finished at the end of September, they promptly extended

the deal which would have meant that there would have been other possible stock cars to choose from in October and November if I'd known that they were going to do that!

The garage did admit that they would have given me a big discount if there had been a suitable car available from UK stock as they would have picked up a large extra sales bonus from Skoda.

If you can get 5 to 6% off of list price that is probably about as much as you will get.

AllanDJ, you didn't get the deal but did get a car quickly, I spent 5 months (choosing/chasing the right deal and build time) in a Hyundai I10 waiting for my choice.

You pays your money and you takes your chances, short term/long term its a choice only you can make for yourselves.

Regards

T
