Headlamp washers not working?

Featured Replies

Chaps.

I think I'm right in saying the headlamp washers only work every five or so uses of the windscreen washer?

My headlamp washers don't seem to be working any more.

Thoughts?

Think it's every 10 or the first time after startup but only if your lights are on and only if you've got enough scoosh.

Good on scoosh, topped up regularly but I haven't seen the tell tale 'jets' for some time.

Will try with the lights on once more but I'm sure I've been through that.

If you turn your lights all the way on and then hit the sprays you should get it. Good for dealing with tailgaters to a start ;)

If not I'd suspect something is wrong.

Yeah, turn the ignition on, lights on dipped beam and keep pulling the front washer...If their working you should hear them activate (the pump makes quite a noise as it's high pressure and drives the telescopic units and jets) and see lots of water spray over the front of the car/bonnet.

At night its v noticeable as the headlight dims whilst the telescopic unit deploys as it gets in the way of the beam for a second or two. Probably less obvious on xenons but can be clearly seen on halogens.

If their not working could be a fuse or perhaps the helical pump that drives the headlamp washer units has faulted.

Thanks chaps, as soon as it stops chucking it down, I will venture outside and try again...

Can confirm - lights need to be on. If you have "Auto" mode, then you have to be in "night stance (to be really honest Skoda goes into night mode too early compared to Audi or other cars with LED day lights) - otherwise there will be no water on the headlamps.

Aaah, ok, this is good, being a lazy g*t, I keep them in Auto mode most of the time, could be where I'm going wrong. :)

Having them in Auto had no effect on the washers, if they lights are on they wash the first time then every ten, until the lights or car are switched off.   Mine are always on Auto and the washers work fine.

Ok chaps.

Much washer fluid later, no joy, nothing on any light setting, tried more than 10 times on each setting.

Due an oil change in about the next month so will get the dealer to look at it then.

Appreciate your input chaps. :)

Chaps.

Popped into a stealer fairly local to where I work and they kindly took a look. Five minutes later, sorted, the guy said they changed a relay possibly, didn't catch what he said properly but it's all working now.

He did mention that I'm not the first to be in with that issue...

old thread revival. My 2015 vrs is stuffing from this issue at the moment. Does anyone have any ideas on where this relay is located?

Hi, although I can't tell you where the relay is, a fault code check would be worth a look for an electrical gremlin. If a relay has failed it would probably pinpoint a number in the code shown. Vcds Carista etc.

Can I check a fault code with out a reader? Does the car have a self diagnostic system?

No, you need a fault code reader.
