150mph in a FL vRS Tsi?

Featured Replies

As in the book, it says this car can go this speed.

How many have done it and how easy was it getting to that speed?

One of the old hands had a photo of his speedo/satnav reading 157mph I think.

It was in Germany.

As my dad always used to say, "It says OXO on buses but it doesn't mean they sell it"  lol

PS if anyone knows where this phrase originally comes from i would love to know

Mine was remapped and got it to just go off the end of the speedo (was going downhill at the time!) . Does take a bit of time to get it flat out......certainly compared to how quickly my zx12r could do it in lol!

Mine goes alright,just a bluefin.have seen 163.

Prior to 1981 it said India on the tyres.............................

On old buses the destination display consisted of a name roll and three number/letter rolls, so when buses were out of service the conductor would put OXO, CAB, A2B, or any other combination he could think of from 1234567890ABCX.

Took my standard VRS to Germany last year and got to 148 MPH. This was the speed shown on the GPS, the speedo was faster than that.

Didn't take a piccy - I was a bit too busy for that. :D

We were travelling from Zeebrugge down to Austria and then back again a week later with two stops in Germany each way.

TBH the car did feel as though it would get that extra 2 as it was still accelerating very slowly. Sadly I never got an opportunity to leave it flat for more than a few miles because of traffic.

Good fun tho!

I can't afford to go to Germany, and don't have a long enough camera/police free 'private road' to check my top speed

:(

Come to Wales lots of good roads :)

Must be 'private' or I'm not interested, I've already had my speed awareness course   :(

Me too lol.  And speeding tickets are £100 now.. ouch

who cares?

who cares?

Who cares about getting caught speeding? People who need their licence for a living I'd expect!

Who cares if a Skoda can achieve its book top speed? This is Briskoda and driving a car at its top speed definitely comes under brisk driving.

Sorry, I can't remember coming across anyone who cared about the top speed of a car (anyone over about 13, that is, or any Top Gear presenter). Driving at 155 mph is not brisk driving, it is lunacy, even on an empty Autobahn. If anything goes wrong, a blowout etc you are dead, so I can't see the point.

Point made, point taken, move on.

It's a car forum full of motoring enthusists, what flicks one petrol heads switch might turn off another.

No one is condoning speeding but it shouldn't come as a suprise that some people are interested in their vehicles top speed.

Think of it as a game of online Top Trumps!

Sorry? that's ok old pip no need to say sorry. Perhaps a forum with the topic 150mph in a FL vRS TSI isnt for you if you don't see the point.

Live a little. Maybe tonight light the pipe before putting the slippers on....

For some people its not about doing the top speed - its just knowing that you could. If you wear a watch you probably don't care that it is waterproof to 50m - you aren't going to wear it diving, but at least you will know for sure its ok in the kitchen sink.

If I paid £100 for a train to London . I would expect it to go to London not fall sort at Watford. :-)

Not the speed that kills you..its stopping quickly

For the same reason we came out of the cave and looked for a big ass mammoth to kill, the same reason I enjoy climbing up cliff faces or whiping down mountains on a tweeked push bike. Some of us are just wired for it, some of us aren't, the standard answer when asked of Sir Edmund Hillery, why do you want to climb mountains so dangerous, to which he replied "because they are there".

If you have to ask, you'll never understand.

Missing the point. I have also climbed cliffs, done scuba diving , taught martial arts etc (although I took many more risks in my job for 30 years, not being a desk bound type). I cannot think of a more irrelevant question. Acceleration is of interest, mid range pull is of interest. The ability of a car to cross country quickly, safely and comfortably is of interest. Top speed is irrelevant. I'd be happy to average 60 on a long journey, but while we continue to top up the country with a million people every three years or so, and to continue to line the motorways with miles of average speed cameras, it ain't gonna happen. It was the title of the thread that caught my eye, because it seemed out of place in a forum for wise and discerning drivers and seemed quite child like -  " Mister, mister, how fast will it go, mister?" Please

At which point I wouldn't have opened the thread, let alone post in it, again, and again...

If it's OK with you, I will decide when and where I want to post. Free country and all that
