As per title

What's the lifespan of (considering if it's serviced properly)

1. Honda civic ep3 (ka20)

2. Skoda fabia vrs (PD130)

Someone said the pd130 block is more durable as its a steel diesel block and that the Honda engine is nearing its life expectancy once it reaches 150k

Can anyone shed any light?

Depends on use/servicing/pot luck

Neither are more reliable than the other.

Vtec's are renowned for lasting pretty much forever.

My mate has an old vti 1.6 vtec with well over 300k on the clock and it gets beasted everywhere inc trackdays / 1/4mile days

I'm not sure how honda make engines so good tbh.

The pd130 is a really good engine, but Hondas engines just seen to go forever tbh.

The b16 n b18 engines are thrashed by lads my age but never seem to break down. Just bulletproof.

Even their bike engines do. The 800 vtec engine thats in my bike is known to go for 140k miles. Which for a bike engine, is impressive. Especially considering most are ridden very spiritedly.

Vtec engine's were designed to be hammered, i think that says everything.

Both can go on forever and both can seriously go tits up too just like any engine

I'd say both car engines will easily out last the car if serviced correctly. It'll be the running gear and body that gives up first.

Probably more likely to be peripherals, like seats and trim which when looking tatty can make a car more or less unsaleable. Stuff like door mirrors and headlamps can cost more than the car will will fetch, so off it goes, as there are no takers.

The last mk1 Octavia went to the fragger precisely for that reason. All mechanicals still working well, still capable of travelling up from Frankfurt to Dunkerque (414miles) holding an indicated 80-90mph, no whines, rattles or clunks. Only a few very minor dents from other careless door openers/parkers. No rust.
