He might not read, but they have employees that do,

and then must try to make sure the Senior Excecutives, Board of Directors etc only get the Positive News

& never the Negative.

Surely they know the name 'vRS' in the UK & 'RS' holds no kudos anymore when it is on a Skoda.

The Skoda CEO, is quoted as saying, If they want a  vRS then they need to buy an Octavia,

but then that is a joke with a Medium size Hatch or Estate with 184 ps Heavy Oil burners (Derv)

or 220 ps from the Heavy Petrol drinkers.

** Not sure if he really says these things or gets misquoted in the Media,

but the cheeky sod sold plenty on vRS Fabia in the year plus since.**

Considering how many faulty ones he allowed to be sold and has never apologised to those he did,

or for poor Quality Control,

and for the bad Customer Services.

IF THEY DID PRODUCE 20,000 MONTE CARLO, THEY ONLY FLOGGED AROUND 6,000 in the UK,

& NOT BY THE TIME HE WAS BEING QUOTED.

They played the 'Motor Sport Heritage', & 'Rally Inspired' just to far.

'Monte Carlo', name to celebrate & turn out cars with 105 ps and Rear Drum brakes,

and unpainted drum brakes at that.

Sand bag the vRS Fabia MK2 hatch so that it is not lighter or faster than the more expensive Estate

and Sister cars from the 3 other VWG Brands, VW, Seat & Audi.

VORSPRUNG DURCH TECHNIK.

Engineering by the Marketing Department & Volkswagen Group Accountants.

I am surprised the 2015 VW Polo GTI is keeping that name, because even with a 1.8TSI and Manual & Auto

some people will still have memories on the Polo GTI 1.4 TSI that was & is a depreciation disaster for many that bought them.

The Skoda CEO, is quoted as saying, If they want a proper vRS then they need to buy an Octavia,

but then that is a joke with a Medium size Hatch or Estate with 184 ps Heavy Oil burners (Derv)

or 220 ps from the Heavy Petrol drinkers.

I never really understood that comment. From a quality and sophistication level - yes the Octavia is and always will be leaps and bounds apart from the Fabia VRS.

But from a performance perspective (and let's be honest, this is what really matters when it comes to bragging rights, nobody boasts about how lovely their leather interior is or how powerful their audio system is) The Fabia has the Octavia edged slightly on that one.

Some days i sit,  and some days i sit and think.

Today was a thinking day,  about the Skoda CEO Winfried Vahland & the quoted statement from him.

"and anyway, If you really want a vRS get an Octavia."

I hope that if anyone wants a vRS and can only get it as an big lump of an Octavia at many thousands more,

they buy something with some go,

a Type R, or a RS from Ford or Renault or some other manufacturer that bothers about what people do want.

Go & handling, not just show

Perhaps many comments from sites like this, world wide, and may be some good feedback given by dealers, press / punters visiting the Paris Show, has made the Narrow minded, ill informed CEO wake up and smell the coffee.

Lets hope he has received a brain transplant over the summer and 2015 brings forth what we all want . The Flagship back but this time well sorted and not really on the punters doing the R&D work for them. !!

Come on Skoda ,now make the right decision ,don't be too proud and be prepared to  eat a chunk of tastey humble pie.

We'll said sir!

With care taken over the engine / transmission choices, it could be a great car, it now has the looks, it just needs the right lump.

I agree this is a very odd statement to make! A diesel car the size of the starship enterprise packing only 184bhp isn't exactly hot-hatch material imho. Even the petrol variant only has 218bhp or whatever it is, which these days doesn't seem like much compared to its competitors.

I would say the VRS brand stands for a 'warm hatch' that is relatively affordable rather than an out and out hot hatch. Just my opinion of course.

I would say the VRS brand stands for a 'warm hatch' that is relatively affordable rather than an out and out hot hatch. Just my opinion of course.

Maybe, But then you could ask, what is the definition of a hot hatch??

The Fabia VRS is quicker than the Ford Fiesta ST in a straight line, but the Ford exceeds it everywhere else. So because the Fabia is faster, does that make it hotter? definitely not.

The Focus ST monsters both of them, so does that make it a hot, hot hatch? or is that a hot hatch and everything slower a warm hatch?

I like to think of the Fabia as a hot hatch (I know others don't and never will) as it fits the definition of an everyday hatchback but with performance that you can enjoy and is more than a standard shopping cart, there are just faster hot hatches on the market.

I'd class the Fabia Monte's and Fiesta's Zetec S's as warm hatches as they have the sporty looks but without the outright performance.

Just my opinion of course! Luckily I have packed my flame retardant suit today.

Hot Hatch or Warm Hatch is a what you want it to mean.

Road Testers and Car Magazines are happy to consider & compare the excellent Suzuki Swift Sport with 136 BHP

along side the likes of 160 bhp Fiat Puntos or Abarth (500) 1.4 litres.

Then the likes of a Mini Cooper S which is no faster than the MK2 vRS but handles, and include the 1.4 TSI A1 or Polo GTI

with the same drivetrain as the Skoda or Seat.

Cars with less than 200 bhp that are pretty similar in performance might now be considered as Warm or Hot.

They are cars around £14,000 - £21,000

Hot Hatches with around 250 - 360 BHP from £25,000 - £43,000 are a rather different class.

Golf GTI, Seat Leon Cupra, S3, A45 AMG.

Calling an Octavia vRS a Hot Hatch when it has the Same or Much the Same Platform as Golfs, Leon. A3's etc

is Stretching the Hatch thing a bit far.

Even calling a 220 PS vRS Octavia a 'Warm Hatch' is stretching the 'Hatch' definition.

'Warm Car' or Sporty Car is about where it is at.

above 6 seconds to 60 but below 7 seconds is what you call Hot hatch so Focus ST, Golf GTi, Megane 250

above 7 seconds to 60 but below 9 seconds is very much warm hatch so Skoda VRS, Suzuki Swift or even Golf GTD ( oh my gosh diesel)

anything lower than 6 seconds, such as Focus RS, Golf R, 130i Audi S3 is now branded as Hyper Hatch.

Then you have the specials like R26-r , Clio V6, Audi A1 Quattro etc, low volume high spec specials.

But for me a proper hot hatch = 3 dr, no traction no ESp and a 1.6 to 2.0 NA engine.  in fact 2.0 was always the real size in an NA

The Fabia VRS is no Hot hatch, its a small but spacious practical car that does everything well but nothing spectacular, thats why it's such a nice car to won, even if it is to some as ugly as a a brick

It is nice when they leave Hot Hatches for dead,  0-120.  or even better 30- 120.   & they can do that.

& once the Hot Hatch is behind, no matter what excellent handling they have, they can not overtake unless they

have that much more go.

There are a good few hot Hatches like that.

& because 0 - 62 MPH (100 km) is not really where it is at in the real world, it matter more how quickly you can be at twice the NSL.

The Standard Twinchargers are pretty good to 120, but lose out getting quick to 130 +

Plenty of 220/250 + BHP Cars need that just to get their Lard Arses shifting.

The new Polo GTI with the 1.8tsi engine has a 0-62 time of 6.7secs. If  Skoda put that in the new Fabia Hatch and Estate it would be perfect.

above 6 seconds to 60 but below 7 seconds is what you call Hot hatch so Focus ST, Golf GTi, Megane 250

I guess its a hot hatch its terms of 0-60 then! They do 0-60 in below 7 seconds easy. With a few mild tweaks my estate is doing nearer to 6 seconds 0-60. Point and shoot DSG does have its advantages....

What makes a hot hatch isn't easy to define.

For different people it's different things, but the most important things IMO are more power than the general model they are based on, entertaining handling and the ability to put a smile on your face.

Skoda don't make any hot models IMO, the VRS (Octy and Fabia) in stock form have never been more than Warm.

Skoda have never made a stock car that handles well enough to be hot IMO.

But I know a lot of drivers of the cars will disagree. :D (several on modified suspension)

It's about time they pulled a rabbit out of the hat and made a hot hatch, if VAG will let them.

If they did, I'd be down my local dealer like a shot!

Until then, I'm stuck in a fish faced Fiesta ST.

I half disagree! ;)

I'm a realist, I know full well the flaws of the Mk2 VRS. Its a hot hatch for me as its quick and handles well enough to be entertaining.

I guess i'm just young and naïve as its only the 2nd car that I've ever owned, the first one being a MK1 VRS.....

Maybe if I sampled some others, like a Fiesta ST I would change my mind.

I kinda' don't want to drive another hot hatch, it may make me realise what I'm missing! :peek:

If Skoda CZ are Rallying a Skoda R5 1.6T using the Body Shape of an All New 3rd Generation Fabia,

then you would hope there will be a 'Warm or even Hot Version', the public can buy.

Big 'If' there, i have no idea what body shape they intend using.

Obviously not a full blown AWD Rally car for sale to the public, but some model with some Sporting Ability.

The Tribute of Putting Stickers & some normal options thrown in as standard fitment on a vRS 1.4 TSI

and calling it a S2000 was a ridiculous move.

much like the Skoda Media Department trying to say the 'Fabia Monte Carlo' are Rally Inspired.

There is more than Lost in Translation between Skoda & the Buying Public.

Volkswagen make Skoda Management look stupid.

I've been banging a drum on this because for me it would be madness to miss an opportunity.

2 choices of engine -  184ps from the Golf Gtd or the 235ps from the Gti. (Or even the 189ps from the new Polo gti)

2 gearboxes available to both, leaving configuration to buyer - 6 speed manual or dsg.

Address faults from this version, and lord knows they must be aware of what they are, and they will have a wee car that will go by the bucketful.

And then a year after that launch, a 4wd version based on the Golf R, with the 270 or 300 engine.

If they are serious about paying homage to sporting heritage its a no brainer.

Internal politics at VW won't in all likelihood allow any of the above.

Skoda just isn't a sporty brand within VAG and so is unlikely to be allowed to have the latest tech. There is certainly room for each model to have a halo model such as a VRS or Sport but imo it is unlikely to be able to release a serious hot hatch in the mould of say a Golf R or Leon Cupra R.

'Sport'   like as in Skoda Rapid 'Sport'.   i hope not.

Make more parts coloured in Black & make them look like on stilts = Sport  or Monte Carlo.

Where is the Anniversary Model  .'Octavia 280' ??

What about the 1.4T Hybrid setup from the Golf GTE... I'm sure that could make for a interesting vRS Mk.III.

Skoda Fabia mk3 VRS with 184 BHP oil burner = WIN !

Skoda Fabia mk3 VRS with 184 BHP oil burner = WIN !

Except it would have a DPF, and would be useless for anyone who does short journeys or who lives in an urban environment. I hope it stays petrol.

I like the article in Auto Express.

'How good could Skoda be if Volkswagen left it to its own devices'.

(sorry, i can not link the article, maybe somebody can.)
