I have a dummy knob in my CitiGo

Featured Replies

How do I remove the upper right knob? This knob is really not a switch. I need to place a real switch there in order to control a relay for aux. lights...

Does anyone knows where to get a real switch that fits? If I ask the dealer they want to do alle the job - costing me too much.

Please see attached picture.

Looks it would just lever out.

Dummy knob - as long as you're not talking about the person behind the wheel. ;)

Was thinking the same, surly you have to get behind to fit the switch anyway so remove head unit and see how its held in might clip out, from back with it being recessed into the unit.

use the blank as a button and put a switch behind it.

...... the blank doesn't depress like a switch? ( i don't think ) haha from what i remember they are just solid plastic?

trim it :) Craft knife should do it.

then that means finding a way to fix it to the inside of the trim to make it operate as a switch. by the sounds of it he already has a switch just needs to get the blank out the way?.... thats what i got from it anyway.

You'll need to remove all the trim and get in behind to remove the blank and fit a switch in its place.

EDIT looks like removal tool slots next to the Media and Menu buttons that'll remove the whole lot to allow access

Thanks! I'll try that. Just put in a flat metal thing in those slots, and press till I hear a crack...

Next would be to find a dealer where I can buy a on/off switch - one that fits.

Put the mannequin back in storage and stay out of the 2+ commuter lane then! ;)

It's only one 2+ commuter lane I know of nearby - 800m long... I must be a taxi driver or drive an electric car to use the bus lanes. Queue is perfect. You get close to people. Cohesion, sort of.

I did find a switch today btw. It's round...but I will make it fit somehow.

Write " ON " on it, It then could become the equivalent to the " ON " button found in the MK1 Fabia cubbyhole

I finally did remove this "dummy button". It's for sure a wannabe-button. First I removed the upper panel around the knobs (AC, heat, fan etc). That was easy.

Then I could access 4 screws deep inside each corner of a frame that holds heat-, fan-, ac knobs. Doing this almost loosen the stereo with the main frame that cover the whole thing.

I borrowed tools to put into those slots each side of the display. I had to slide out those buttons on upper left and right corner and disconnect them (It is two "panels" with connectors).

Then I could pull out the radio/CD. Clips hold it in place too, but these are made in such a way it is possible to remove the frame without damaging anything.

Disconnected the antenna, and a large connector. Now the radio/CD is loose and removed.

So to the hard part. Removing the frame that holds these heat, fan, ac knobs. Lots of wiring, and hardware to remove. After some swearing, wounds and hedache, this panel was loose too.

So the hardest part - removing the "dummy knob". This knob is in one piece with that frame, so it has to be cut away. But first I had to remove the fan, heat knobs. These was fasten so tight I really had to use muscles and some tools to remove them. After some struggeling I could finally unclip the frame where the "dummy knob" is. Behind this frame I could access and remove an electronic board. Behind this board there is a few gears and lots of grease on each side. Do not get plastic shavings in here!

I removed the dummy knob with a dremel, and I made a hole large enough to fit the new switch. Also I had to find a way to access the new wiring by removing even more plastic.

Then I pulled the cable from the engine compartment and into the cab. Soldered the switch in place just to find out that I had forgot to pull the cable through the hole in the first frame I removed - **** happens, but I managed to fix this, just to find out that the switch was to big to fit in the hole in this frame... A new round with soldering, and finally I got the switch in place.

I put everything back together, and checked if all the switches and knobs worked fine. It did! However, when I start the engine, the air bag symbol turns on...it does not turn off.

So I guess I have to check again if I have missed something, or loosen a cable that wasn't supposed to be loosen while I removed all the others.

Anyways, the relay for the auxiliary lights works fine. I can activate and deactivate it with the switch.

I do not have pictures of this, but I have to access a possible loose cable for the air bag anyway, So I will take some pictures for you to see what I have done.

I did, but it only says I am not allowed to upload more pictures in that new reply...Maybe it's a newbie limitation on this...

Try using an online hosting like Picasa or Flickr

But it's a round switch!!!  My OCD wouldn't allow that!

Same here [emoji6]
