Just letting everyone know that if they put the a non canbus kit in to get it coded other wise have a wiper motor ready

What do the lights do to the wiper motor to burn it out???. This is a very strange one.

Not sure but something to do with the xenon hid kit I was told about a while ago

Cheers, cars are getting far to complicated.

Not all electrical loads are protected by fuses.

This is why the HID kits can affect the wipers as the adverse currents fry controllers instead of popping fuses.

Gone are the days where you have a big relay in the dash to control the intermittent wipers function. It is now controled electronically, the same as the auto wipers function and indicators.

So there's no fuse for the wipers /:

It would be foolish of a manufacturer not to protect electrical loads with fuses. Unfused wires have the very real potential to catch fire, a nightmare whilst under warranty, the exception to this is usually the main supply to the starter motor due to extremely high current, hence the diameter of the cable.

Back to the question, engine compartment, F31 30a rating, according to my owners book page 259.

Just messaged my brother an told him have a look as car is with him will let you know once I'm. Updated thanks for the reply

The info I posted is for version 1 fusebox, if you have version 2 it will be F19 also 30 amp.

Skoda approved mechanic has said due to the 35w ballast xenon kit is why it has gone which I new

Should I just buy the 55w ballast will this cure future problems??

Or will coding via vcds be better ?

The 55W ballast will be worse. It is these higher powered ballasts that are rumoured to cause the issues?

The 35W kits are supposed to be OK. I think the issue here might be that you fitted a non-CANBUS kit before carrying out the coding.

Where did you get your HID kit from? The eBay seller London Colour is well reputed on here...

On.the forum it says to use non canbus 35w kit then code

However I fitted the kit an did not get it coded

I think I will take the kit out fit standard bulbs do sone research and go from there

smileonimpact is right, there is a fuse for the front wipers.

It is in the fusebox in the engine bay rather than the one inside the car on the end of the dash.

According to the manual there are two different types of under bonnet fuse box.

Depending on which one you have it is in either position F31 (Type 1) or F19 (Type 2) - both a 30A fuse.

In case its is just a coincidence, and the cause is not related to incorrect electrofu, my first Octavia had the wipers stop working 6 weeeks after the end of warranty. Dealer refysed to even look at it (Farmers Leics, will not reuse).

So feeling poor at the time, I had a look and it turned out to be the wiper spindles seized. A strip and greasing worked as there obviously had not been any grease there ever before.

New rack was fairly expensive I think, so it stayed like it was until fragged.

I thought only canbus HID kits with capacitors fried the wiper motor and/or controller? I've not heard of the non canbus kits damaging anything.

I hope if someone has had a problem they will post here as I'm having my HID kit out if its going to damage anything, not risking being stuck miles from home in the rain with no wipers!

You need the non canbus hid kkit fitted and programmed via vcds

Yep, got a non canbus kit programmed in with VCDS. I'm just surprised the programming has anything to do with stopping wiper motor damage after all doesn't it just stop the bulb errors being shown?

I think what it is doing is programming the car for the 35w bulbs from the hid kit so when the bulb blows the power doesn't get diverted to the wiper motor causing it to blow, something along them.lines

No No and trice NO!!!

It doesn't work like that. AT. ALL.

Care to explain what it does do then

Its the massive (relative) capacitors and resistors that screw up current flow and reverse discharge through the common earth of the headlights and wiper motor that causes the damage.
