Coming down the A1(m) Saturday night and what should go pelting it past me but an M3, funny thing was there was a silver TDI 130 octy chasing it... I decided to follow both cars. The M3 was playing with both of us allowing us to catch up and then boot it past so I set my sights on the Octy which was fun

Couldn't test like for like speed as there was the odd car on the road and that would of been irresponsible but handling wise they are fairly similar, both being nose heavy.

The M3 wasn't really trying to hard to kill us but it made us look like we where standing still at some points

And the point of this post ? For all the people who think they can out run an M3 in a skoda... don't bother you will look very silly when we pushes the loud pedal down even a little

Even worse if it's an M3 CSL.........Have had several goes in one........"AWESOME"

I think some of the heavily modded Octy owners might disagree with you :P Whether they're right or not is another matter

A few years ago a friend of mine turned up to a scooby meet in his new car, a Porsche GT2.

Doesn't the Furby vRS accelerate in-gear between 60-80 as fast as the M3, theoretically? (after which point the Furby looses it as the M3 just keeps going for a few more thousands of revs )

My previous manager has an M3 CSL, seemed pretty quick

If both cars were in 5th I guess it'd be vaguely (very vague?) similar.

But if the M3 was in third (or second ) it'd be all over...

I had a simular experience with an M3, had him behind me at about 60mph, could see he wanted to go for it so I kindly moved over to the inside lane to allow him to pass, as I did I floor it and it was hilarious!!

What an awesome car, left me for dead lol

The in gear times make me laugh as well.

Who does 50-70 in 5th gear in an M3 if they want to go fast? The M3 has the ability to go down to second gear if required and blow our low power TDi's into the weeds.

Having owned both M3 and Fabia vRS, I can honestly say that they are a world apart! Yes, maybe in 6th gear, pulling 50mph that there maybe not much in it but if both drivers were trying, they wouldn't be in a high gear!?

The power range of the M3 engine is 6-8k revs and the Fabia vRS is 2-4k revs. Torque figures are not far away though 229 lb's vs 269 lb's but the power 130 bhp vs 343 bhp tells a different story as do performance figures!

0-60 4.8s vs 8.5s

0-100 11.5s vs 22s

but the fabia slaughters it on running costs

I remember once showing a clean pair of heels to a Boxster exiting a roundabout on the A47, which gave me an inflated sense of the Furby's abilities. Next thing I tried it on with was a Carrera GT4, which was just embarrassing

I suppose my biggest 'scalp' was a Mitsi GTO, but seeing how it would have been a 12 (or more) year-old grey import, it could well have been in less than perfect working order...

Yep M3 = Very fast

Furby vRS = Slow compared to the M3

Could have been a non-MIVEC version with an automatic gearbox. Not all GTO's are quick.

The funniest one was over on scoobynet, a chap name Microft had a Toyota Soarer and was convinced he was faster than a Lambo Diablo. The thread went on for about 10 pages.
