*feeler* - Fabia uprated anti-roll bar/s

Featured Replies

Again, just to clarify, its a feeler..

Who would be interested in some uprated ARBs for the fabia (mainly vrs but should fit all)

As some of you may or may not know, the only option at the mo is the eibach item, unfortunately, its only 22mm where the standard vRS one is 21mm (17 or 19 for non RS+Ibizas)

also, there are no rear anti-roll bars available for the platform either.

Anyone who has been in or seen ColinD in his octy when he comes to corners will agree the benifit of uprated ARBS.

just a feeler at the mo, but toying with the possibility of getting some uprated items fabricated, just the front at first, due to the high cost of designing a rear item.

and ive no idea on price whatsoever, so dont ask :)

Got to be worth investigating Colin.

Any clue whatsoever on potential pricing?

Also would it be any lower than the standard one?

Do you mean would the price be lower than a standard one??

If not -

I doubt it would have any effect on the ride height of the car, it merely stiffens things up.

Transformed my Octy far more than coilovers did on my previous octy.

Nobody's followed me round a roundabout that I know of :D

I have the adjustable rear, but it's set to medium, thus neutral. But could be adjusted to encourage or discourage understeer by the fronts.

I also have the front upper brace, god knows if that helps, I suspect not given the strength of modern cars over older ones.

...and made it stick.

/Except Jon, Des, Paul, Mike etc.

I would be interested in further info.

What would be the effect of stiffening the front ARB without putting a rear one on?

well it will def reduce body roll, but if the ARB is too stiff for the car setup then you may just lose independence between the suspension members on both sides of the car.

If that happens then when one of the wheels hits a bump, the ARB transmits the bump to the other side of the car as well, which is not what you want.

As for effect on understeer / oversteer im still trying to work it out in theory in my 'ead.....but i THINK that it will increase the likelihood of understeer...

It will when pushed hard, but it increases overall grip levels AND makes them more accessable to use and exploit.

certainly when i uprated my rear ARB on my impreza the car felt more tail happy (thats relative to how it was before - it was still exceptionally well behaved)

now that being said, the tendency to underteer or oversteer is in part related to the ratio between the roll resistance at the fron and the roll resistance at the back.

up to th epoint where its TOO stiff the ARB should increase traction at that end.

so still a little confused on what the effect would be of a strengthened front ARB in this case (assuming its not TOO stiff)

providing its not too stiff yes, the outside front tire will have more mechanical downforce and hence more traction.

again I THINK that if the bar is too stiff the inside front could even be prone to complete lift off.

In a situation like this I guess the prospective developer works with car owners like those in here to test different configs ?

Less roll, more grip :D

edit: it aint gonna be overkill, but the front end (and rear) need tiying down a bit.

but how to address the rear aswell colin ? no way with the fab right ?

Jabba now have the contacts to build any ARB you want ! And they are Rose jointed, none of those soggy Rubber Bushes

You can stiffen the front to a certain extent without needing to do the rear too, there may be a option for a rear arb eventually (no fwd VAG car has a rear-arb. but there are aftermarket kits, unfortunately nothing for the fabia chassis yet)

Stuart. it will probably be Jabba who will be making the fabia one.

btw, i belive you have one of their custom ones for your 4x4? how are you finding it?

Log me down as an interested party.

Would also be interested in a group buy of Powerflex bushes kits if ever a group buy was a potential go-er. ;)

Would certainly be interested in a rear ARB.. I always thought that uprating the front but not the rear leads to more understeer. While uprating the rear reduces understeer - but can make the rear a bit tailhappy. Probably not as simple as that!

showing us the way forward for furby mods again eh Colin!

for powerflex Jase, your probably better sourcing them yourself, think the poly bushes are too hardcore for a gb

FANTASTIC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Completely transformed the car, its the way it should always have been, its on the track on the 1st and I cant wait, Its a short twisty track so it should really benefit me. Handling is now neutral, the feeling by others who have driven it is that when really pushed it might give slight oversteer, to date I havent got anywhere near the limit, I will try & find it on the track
