Warranty with Skoda from Approved Skoda dealer

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm looking at buying a used 2011 Skoda Octavia 1.4 TSI SE with 20k miles from a Skoda dealer I found on the Skoda UK website.

I've viewed the car, had a drive and discussed figures. During this talk I was told that the car comes with a 3 month RAC warranty which costs £299 if I want to extend it to 12 months.

On getting home I find the following on the Skoda UK website

If you're buying a car that’s less than six years of age with less than 72,000 miles on the clock you'll automatically receive a 12 month warranty. Older cars which have a maximum of 100,000 miles on the clock come with a minimum of 3 months’ warranty. Warranties will either be the remainder of Manufacturer's warranty, a ŠKODA APPROVED warranty or a combination of the two.

You can also extend the warranty period at the time of buying, giving you even more worry-free driving time.

I've emailed the dealer to query this and await their response.

In the meantime can anyone advise if I've missed something obvious? I found the car from searching on the Skoda UK website. It is sold by a dealer Skoda list as an Approved Used Skoda Dealer. Is this car not a Skoda Approved Used Car?

If they claim it is not classed as such am I entitled to ask for my £1k deposit back or to renegotiate the price?

Cheers for any help

I thought any car bought from a Skoda Authorised deal came with a one year warranty/rac cover if less than72K on the clock and less than6( i think ) years old

Who is the dealer?

No, they can sell them without the warranty. I think it depends on whether the car has a full dealer service history. Also a Skoda dealer may simply not offer a Skoda authorised warranty on any second hand cars at all.

ŠKODA APPROVED used cars - The advantages of buying from us

Understandably, a lot of people are a little nervy when buying a used car. To take the uncertainty out of buying a used ŠKODA, go to one of our APPROVED retailers. We offer a whole host of checks, warranties and the like, so you don’t have to worry about anything but choosing the right car for you.

Our APPROVED used vehicle programme includes the following:

Manufacturer and/or ŠKODA APPROVED warranty

If you’re buying a car that’s less than six years of age with less than 72,000 miles on the clock you’ll automatically receive a 12 month warranty.

A year’s free Manufacturer and/or ŠKODA APPROVED Assistance

Again, if your car has yet to reach its sixth birthday and has covered less than 72,000 miles, you’ll benefit from 12 months’ Manufacturer and/or ŠKODA APPROVED Assistance. If your car breaks down, one phone call will get you back on the move. Cover operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Terms and conditions apply. Please speak to your local ŠKODA retailer for full details.

The car must be an Approved  used by the look of it

There have been threads on here before where people have bought cars with the approved warranty. The warranty is backed by a third party (i.e. not Skoda/VAG) and so there are cars they will not cover.

Someone like that. After I got my car and it became apparent that the air con was bust, it took several days to get the repair approved after the diagnostics were done.

The dealer is Birchwood Skoda in Eastbourne.

If it is the case that it is not covered then I feel like I've been misled to be honest. I found the car by searching for used cars from Skoda UKs website. It was not marked as being excluded from the warranty. It even has a link above the photo marked approved programme benefits.

I'm now considering asking for my £1k deposit back on the grounds that I've been misled. Unless they are going to honour the 1 year warranty or reduce the price. I just feel that if they're choosing not to provide the warranty with this vehicle then they must have cause to feel that it's a liability.

Opinions welcome.

What did the dealer's original advert or website listing state? Use that as a guide.

Looking at the avert for the car I would expect it to be covered for a year with Full RAC cover

Skoda UK's website lists Birchwood Skoda as an APPROVED used Skoda retailer, as the OP has stated. I would expect their used cars to be covered accordingly.

Ok Dealer has got back to me stating that they would not normally advertise a car of that age (4yrs - 20k miles) on the Skoda Approved Used website but since this one was they will provide the 1 year warranty.

Seems like a simple mistake but they will honour it. Saves me thinking about paying for the 1 yr RAC warranty they were flogging for £299

Is a Skoda Approved Used Warranty worth the paper ? I'm assuming I will get some documentation with the T&Cs. I'm going quite far to purchase this so it would be nice to know that I could just bring it into the nearest Skoda dealer.

Anyone got any experience with Skoda Used warranties?

Cheers!

Another member is having a new 1.8TSI engine fitted under that warranty which is encouraging.

Simple mistake my @rse,  It covers cars up to 6 years or 72K which ever comes first. They just wanted an extre £299 of you.. Glad it's sorted though
