So p much bought my octavia used with 80k km ( 2018 1.5 tsi) did a oil and filters change. Everything was fine until recently when I noticed car made this sound on startup (not always but sometimes) and it goes away after a little.

Not my video since someone else also posted with same issue but without any solution. Should I worry? Idk what to do since im away from home for next 2 weeks or so.

Sounds like something loose like exhaust shroud or belt tensioner.

Does it go away after warming up? Suggests exhaust.

What about if you rev it up a fraction. The vibration frequency would change a bit and the loose part would stop resonating.

It goes away when engine drops the revs but if I rev it while that sound is there that sound will also rev up if that makes sense

Hi @MANi_727

This is my car :) 2018 1.5 TSI 100k km on it. I took my car to the service again 2 weeks ago but I couldn't find a solution. According to them, this sound is very normal, and they said it is coming from a part that provides engine heat when the car is cold. I don't know anything about cars, and I can't remember the part they said, but they said it is normal. You will hear this sound when the weather is hot or the car is hot but outside is cold.

I also paid extra and had the trigger belt, etc., checked, but they said it was solid, and there was no problem. Frankly, I am tired of this car and my only wish is that the belt doesn't break or malfunction by summer. I will pay off the debt and sell it and get rid of Skoda and its stupid services.

btw: This sound started for me around 80k km and I drove it for 20 thousand more. During 2 weeks of summer vacation,s 5-6 thousand km. I can say from my own experience that there is no problem that would leave it on the road. At least I was lucky.

I wish you good luck. Please let me know if you find a solution!

Had similar sound on my old 1.9tdi and it was a heat shield that had come loose and was sitting on exhaust. Try the trick with a length of hose. One end to your ear and move the other around the engine to narrow it down. Gets louder the closer you get.

Listened to it again and It could be the auxiliary water pump. It I think turns on when car is cold etc. to divert heat to cabin. If its failing or perhps an airlock at pump? it could make that sound. Does it do it when engine is upto temp and then restarted?. As its electric I assume its possibe to unplug it and see if the sound goes.

Nope, it doesn't do the same noise when it's warm. But you would hear it after 10-15min you started the car. @MANi_727 Have you had a chance to identify the issue?

@OctaviaFFM yeah I have funnily enough i found out the solution randomly on TikTok

Idk what tf that part is but that little "bracket" at the end was loose and it made that sound on cold start because it vibrated a lot

Also if u wanna make sure its 100% that u can turn on your engine and hold that rod lightly that's how I figured it out
