Safe power without updating clutch? Or should I go all out?

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I've got a 1.9tdi ATD engine (100) in my polo.

I am running-

Decat system

EGR delete

Hybrid turbo ( 130 casing with 170 internals rated around 210hp)

Front mount inter cooler (AirTec)

I also have some 150 injectors to go in

Before I go for a map i want to know what is safe to push my original clutch which is spot on pulls fine no slipping

Or shall I upgrade before a map and if so any ideas which ones?

I know it is all power dependent I'm just looking at rough figures

Jason

Torque is what kills clutches and dual-mass flywheels, not power!

If you've got a good map on your car then standard clutches can last. I'm still on my original clutch at 118k and it refuses to die, despite having over 300ft/lbs on a full stage 2 spec! I'm not sure what the difference is clutch wise with your being a PD100 though...

Have you got the money set aside for a clutch? If you have then just get the injectors fitted and it mapped and see how long you can get your standard one to last. If it ain't broke don't fix it!

My advice would definitely be to make sure you get a decent map. I would personally get John on here to do your mapping, aka Faboka. Lots of guys on here have used him and his maps and service are second to none! He's currently mapping mine for my new turbo.

+1 for Faboka, he understands the implications of aggressive maps and that power figures are for pub talk.

Right ok well I really like the torque that tdi give

What is yours like acceleration wise and overtaking as I spend most of my driving time on motorways and duel carriageways so torque is important :)

And how much does Faboka charge?!?

Thanks for replying quickly :)

You don't lose torque or get a low torque figure, you get nice useable torque curve that comes in smoothly.

Not just a big torque spike all of a sudden.

My car did 243bhp and 357lb ft of torque, running a Gtb1756 mapped by John :)

OK, so it's an ATD with a 5 spd box? That's likely to limit things unless you can upgrade the clutch.

Darkside do some upgrades to hold 300lbft on the 5 speeder.

Which ever way you do it. I don't think the standard 5 speed clutch is going to be enough.

Good news in the five speed box has great potential for clutch and flywheel upgrades, a lot cheaper prices than the 6 speed.

Cheers guys

Just spoken to darkside and they said my clutch will be capable of 200bhp and 300lbft

What sort of figures am I looking at with these values 0-60 time? Or any cars to compare it too?

All about the pub talk again *sigh

Sufficient! :)

Should be able to get 200BHP with no more than 280lbft.
