Yep, think both those questions have already been answered lol. I took 5 different raw exposures for each shot, combined them manually and they were editing in two different programs. I like to have full control over my processing, not just a 'HDR' button etc.

No, as mentioned you can't just wander in, there are check points with security and you need to have authority to be there. They had our passport details in advance to have us on an authorised list to get in and you need your passport with you when you get there. Then you're scanned for contamination on the way out.

No one with an inch of sense would 'loot' highly contaminated material. It's seriously dangerous stuff, you just don't touch ANYTHING there. The background radiation is fairly low, but the 'stuff' there is quite badly contaminated.

The place in America is Centralia...I believe the town was the insipration for the Silent Hill series of games and films.

There are so many awesome deserted place in the world that would be amazing to visit...For me I love seeing how nature forces it's way back into man made structures, the way Prypyat has all been swallowed up by the trees etc is mind blowing.

Ah sorry, I was at work, saw this post and wanted to make a quick reply haha. ah sweet. Well nice work.

Wow I find it supprising that they let people go. I'd love to go.

I'd always wanted to go to a ghost town and Pripyat is one of the well known ones so I guess that's why I fancied going here in particular. There's also so much to see with it being a large exclusion zone, not just a random abandoned village or something. Duga is pretty awesome.

Hundreds of people work in the zone so no reason why you can't go. It's more the disintegrating buildings that are a danger, as you feel the floor go beneath you! I'm sure if it was in the uk you wouldn't be allowed in haha!

Yeah everyone's big on health and safety, you can't even climb a tree in a public place without breaking the law. God where have the old days gone... :/

Why? It might be the spark to get you shooting again.

Should buy a Canon instead...

Speaking as a Canon shooter I have to agree. Nothing better than getting my canon out and sitting it on the tripod - its too heavy otherwise! :p

It's not the camera but the user that makes the biggest difference!

Well these were shot with a 7 year old D300, nothing modern or special

I very much agree with this, just part of the camera banter, my old canon is battered and bruised from many a trip out taking pictures

Just to show I'm not prejudiced, this was with a cheap second hand canon body that I bought simply to use with my dad's old Zeiss lenses :) hard to focus as all Zeiss are manual focus and the DSLR bodies aren't really designed for that, so it's a buggar to focus, but when you manage it these lenses are sharp!!!

I still won't covert fully to canon though haha! Don't own any canon lenses and only used canon for this in particular as the mount from contax/Yashica lens to canon body is simply a ring, but to put it on a nikon you have to have a glass lens in the mount due to the bigger difference in the mount. Didn't see the point in having cheap glass in the way of brill lenses - defeated the object!

Ah the Zeiss lens are meant to be nice, nicest lens have used is the 50mm 1.2 which was good.

As promised (apologies for thread hack)

Sorry, where are yours from again? I lost track of what it was you were posting! Lol.

Ahh not done light painting for years, need a better torch for that, just got a maglite at the mo!

The nicest modern lens I have is my 105 macro. Expensive, the but difference in quality is vast. The Zeiss are epically sharp when you get the focus right. Got 28mm, 50mm, 85mm and 135mm in Zeiss.

That was West-Park, Pyestock and a random abandoned Manor House.

They are nice lens the Macro, had a 90mm that I sold (stupidly) at the moment the 17-40 I have is mainly on my camera and I have my little 50mm 1.8 for backup.

I think that was done with a maglite if I remember correctly

The D300 is a fine fine camera - but I am biased, but the photographer is the main element in creating great photos.
