Anyone NOT happy with their Octy VRS?

Featured Replies

I'm on 20k miles with my VRS TSI DSG hatch and have to say I might just have to complain to Skoda, after all it's got more power than they quoted and returns better mpg than quoted. :dull:

I mean come on Skoda, why is my 2.0 Turbo capable of 50.3mpg on a trip when you reckon it should do 44 and why can I easily get it to sprint to 60mph in under 6 seconds when it should be slower.

There must be something wrong with my car, I want to reject it and have you swap it for another than isn't as fast or economical.

:D  :D  :D

IN ALL SERIOUSNESS, this has to be the best all round car I've owned. 20k miles without issue and plenty of poke if I need it and whilst driving for work it returns better mpg than my last two diesel cars, go figure!!

Fits the family in with ease, all five of us and has a huge boot that would put many cars in the next size up to shame.

Great car Skoda, as quoted in the past, all the car you'll ever need

What are you after? If you want high end performance I would suggest you consider the Leon cupra or golf gti pp*, I am only guessing but if the LSD does as advertised then the extra grip would be useful.

If you want a large car that can get about swiftly, overtake easily, but don't need the thrill of fast driving then the vrs is pretty capable.  Tsi has more than I need in that respect.

* other non VAG cars are also available

Kill for an RE5

It's an unusual beasty. Heaviest bike to put on the stand I have ever owned.  Very fast for a 38 YO 500.

Had my vRS TFSI for 6 weeks now and very happy with it. Only niggles are the amount of road noise transmitted through the rear suspension and a notchy gearchange when cold. It certainly feels quicker than my Mondeo Titanium X Sport which had the 2 litre ecoboost engine. Once I have a few more miles on the clock will be looking to buy the REVO remap, which is supposed to be good for 320bhp.

This will give it more power and torque than my "toy", which is a Westfield Seight with a 4.6 litre Rover V8 putting out 270bhp. Left a fast bike on a bendy A road, but not so much fun on bumpy B roads !

I've had a Golf GTi mk V and loved it but it was basic and fast IMHO. I'm hoping for a Waggon that's fast comfortable that my a Springer, Webber, will have lots of room in.

So I've gone for a vrs TDI DSG in moon white with

Nav

Winter pack

Spare wheel

Black pack

I chose this as it was a dealer ghost order and so available in a week..which changed to three weeks, strangly just after I signed for it!

I'm happy with the spec.

So pleased I've found this forum, no one trying to be smart and a lot of varied opinions.

Just out of interest, I tried to spec the 19inch wheels but was told there are NONE available..is this true?

It's true the wheels are not available to order as a seperste option.... BUT you can order them as part of the black design package plus option. The option is roughly around £750. It comes with the 19" wheels, black grille, mirror caps and roof rails if it's an estate.

He said that they could not order that pack! I'm happy that I went for a built one...no way could I wait for a build!

I'm happy with my TSI VRS estate.

I've not owned a petrol car for over a decade so its performance and addictive noise is just great. I had a drive around with a friend in Devon last week, and it was all very civilised and peaceful until we got to an empty stretch of dual carriageway and the full throttle accelerate away from a roundabout in Sport mode was very memorable! The sound over 4000 rpm is just great. The rest of the time its a relaxing family car for ferrying the kids around.

Very minor niggles - suddenly picked up a 2ft long scratch down one side, and some bits feel cheap in comparison with the MkII but I think its a keeper unless the 4WD RS280 version comes out when I'm in full midlife crisis mode.

Les.

I was wanting to get a vrs TDI but the PCP APR is 7.9%. As they are offering 0% PCP on Elegance, SE etc. at the moment I really couldn't justify spending money on interest when I could be spending that money on car. Ended up going for the Estate Elegance 4x4 2.0TDI with winter pack, xenon lights, columbus and adaptive cruise. Would have gone for an auto but it's not an option on that car.

I also wish they offered the regular hatch with the same sliding boot cover as the estate. Only reason I went for the estate is for that!!! Can't be doing with having to keep taking the parcel shelf out and putting it back to accommodate the dog!

I've got to say I love my vRS TDI hatchback it the best skoda I've owned

But there is one little thing I would of like LED number plate lights as standard

All happy here. Wish I'd ticked the DSG option box though. That's my only regret. Next time.

mines cursed by the devil ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,vrs 666 it should say ................jinxed is an understatement

I'm happy with the 18" wheels, Think 19" would be too hard in normal everyday use.

I still love my vRS....

Also  love that I only see few vRS's  on the road around where i live..

See lots of Octavia 3

Love my VRS Tdi, no problems so far. May go for a Tsi when my PCP is up.... Depending on what deals they have on.

VRs tdi, had it about 8 weeks & well pleased with it.

Previous car was Audi 2.5 tdi sport, engine in VRs is way better but materials used in the interior

are definitely of a lesser quality particularly carpets.

That being said still think its a nice cabin.

Yes, it's too ruddy fast to spot girls while overtaking. And the boot is so big I keep losing stuff, plus when I curse because of it, I hear my voice echoing.

Also, I save up so many points at BP I don't know what to spend them on and everyone in my neighborhood is looking at me with envy.

Well if this is true I am going to cancel mine right now!

What issues have you had mate?

Ok - I've had my VRS TDI (MY15) for a 4 months now, having had a Mk5 Golf GTi from new for the previous 8 years.  I wanted more space and better economy and it has met my expectations on both those fronts and exceeded them on most others.  There's no doubt the TSI would have been even more enjoyable but the diesel packs a lot of punch and is surprisingly refined so I'm very happy with my choice.

"Official" fuel consumption figures are meaningless of course so don't expect 60mpg (or whatever it is they claim).  My long term average with a mix of driving and fairly spirited and sometimes high-speed driving is around 42mpg.  This compares with 28mpg with my old GTi, so I'm saving 33% on fuel, which is nice.

My main disappointment is with the sound quality from the standard Bolero system.   I would strongly encourage anyone ordering a new car to seriously look into the Canton option, because the sound system can't be upgraded once you've got it.

Otherwise it's all good:  styling, handling, comfort, space, gadgets - even the perceived quality of the interior fittings - are all good.  And I'm delighted it has a real handbrake and not the annoying electric one that VW fit to the Golf etc.

I would strongly encourage anyone ordering a new car to seriously look into the Canton option, because the sound system can't be upgraded once you've got it.

Coming from a Harman Kardon system in the BMW I even found the Canton lacking some punch, so I added a sub in the boot spare wheel space with its own amplifier.

I can now honestly say it packs more punch than anyone would ever need in a car :-).

But seriously, anyone have complaints (other than technical malfunctions ofc.) with a VRS is probably a spoiled brat. It's an amazing car and very, very well thought out c.q. put together.

I'm having a blast in it and feel very happy getting into it every day, driving it amongst a mostly 'German' car pool at work (almost everyone with us drives either an Audi, Mercedes or BMW).

Yet I am the one getting all the compliments! "Nice rims" or "Looking sporty" and from time to time someone will walk in and ask "whose RS is that out there on the parking lot?"

Just changed jobs, and yet another carpark where my Rallye Green estate in there is a bit like looking at those modern artistic photo prints, where it's all black and white, except for one main feature. In this case my Vrs. Love it,

Only problem with the vRS is that its that good its becomming now rather common, certainly in the south. I see a few during a normal week commuting from south coast to Gatwick.

Even worse with the regular model. The car hire companies seem v keen on 1.6 TDi S, SE and Elegances they are literally everywhere!

Had mine for a month now, racked up about 1300 miles. First ever Skoda after years of BMW's, Audi's and VW's and overall I'm really pleased with it.

Because of my German car history I fully expected compromise and the gripes are few and far between. I have a VRS TDI with the DSG gearbox and the sport mode is ridiculous, holds revs way too high for a diesel where all the torque is lower down the range, back in normal mode is better for most driving.

The ride is on the hard side, reminds me of Audi's of old and I'm very glad I didn't opt for the 19" wheels as I imagine they are horrific. Skoda could do with benchmarking a 3 series m-sport for ride quality and sportiness, very good balance. Coming from rear wheel drive I've had to alter driving style, plant the throttle in the VRS in corners, including dry, and it does scrabble which is the narrow torque band coming into play.

Cruise control should be on the steering wheel, far more intuitive, too many other functions on the wheel that I won't use. The fuel tank is too small, keeps catching me out, as it did yesterday and had to fill up on motorway with high prices.

Those are a few gripes but the rest of the car is excellent and I have definitely made the right decision as value for money and the space, which is important for me with two young kids and we go camping, is a winner. Just need to get use to a few more things which then become second nature.
