So this happened today :( think it may well be a write off

Importantly everyone involved was fine.

The old dear unfortunately pulled out of the t junction on me without looking at the last second giving me no time other than to try and stop on what turned out to be a very greasy section of road.

Have the whole thing on camera, also with multiple witnesses. The police were happy that I wasn't doing excessive speed and it was her fault.

That'll buff out!

Seriously though I'm glad everyone is ok!

OMG...That's horrible!!

You must be gutted..

Glad your unhurt though

Did the airbags activate?

Fooook. Not good.

At least all OK and no fault of your own is clear.

But poor car and poor you. Let us know how you get on with insurance / repairs / replacement.

Bugger. Glad you're ok mate.

Feel for you, hope you get it sorted

Thanks, somewhat sad, poor car. Had new wheels and tyres not long ago. Sods law that this happened just after I'd filled it with diesel to.

No air bag deployment in either car. Seat belt pre tensioner has activated in mine tho. I was slowing down for this junction anyway as it has a bit of a reputation round here. Think I'd got it down to 30-35 ish when it went crunch. It's a good job I wasn't going through there at 60+ as a lot of people do, it could have been a lot worse.

Thanks Ed, after all the time spent at yours doing the maxidot, etc.

Utter crap mate! I feel for you, not what anyone needs let alone the back end of the year.

At least the dash cam offers absolute clarity and vindicates you of any wrongdoing.

Thanks all for the support. Think it will be next week before I find out it's fate. If it can't be repaired I'll be buying it back and stripping it before it gets scraped.

I'd be very surprised it that was written off.

Strip off the cosmetic damage (bonnet, wings, headlights, bumper, grill, slam panel and radiator etc.) and the damage looks to be pretty minor.

As long as the engine hasn't moved or the roof isn't kinked it should hopefully be a relatively straight forward (albeit expensive) repair. The lack of airbag deployment is a good indication of the severity of the impact.

Good luck!

Which car was the old dear driving, the silver people carrier?

It was a reasonably new micra, its behind the people carrier.

You may be surprised without airbag deployment the cost of repair will be significantly lower.  It looks like bumper, bonnet, slam panel, headlights, maybe A/C & water rads? Wings look to have miraculously escaped?  Oh and seatbelt units as mentioned.  I'd be surprised if there is £6k to £7k of damage and that's surely still a £10k car? at least?

Ouch, but a good advertisement for the benefits of cameras.

+1 on the camera. The new cars are designed to crumple so as above hopefully the damage is all cosmetic, it'll be cost effective to repair it and you'll get a nice new front end with no stone chips. Good luck and let us know how you get on with the insurers.

Definitely glad I had the camera.

I have a little Kia Picanto as a courtesy car, it's has a lumpy clutch and notchy steering without any feel, but it has 4 wheel and will get me from A to B so I can't complain. I won't hear anything about the cars fate until early next week.

Looks similar damage to what I had, insurance invoice was £2600 in parts and labour, but that was with pattern parts. If it is going to be repaired, state you want genuine parts only! The pattern parts used on mine didn't fit properly and it went back in to have everything replaced again! It still isn't 100%, but you have to look for the odd gaps! I also had no airbag deployed (and didn't notice the pretensioners either), I went into the back of a new mini 4x4 thing at around 30 :/

Mines a 56 plate Elegance estate, so you'll probably get to keep enjoying yours too!

Oh, and my courtesy cars were a Citroen C1 and Peugeot 107, courtesy cars are without doubt the most fun cars to have!

What camera did you have?

Thinking of getting one.

Update:

They have authorised the repair, finally after waiting almost 2 weeks for them to inspect the car. The other parties insurer has admitted liability. After going through the parts list I had to point out to them that the seat belt, tensioner will need replacing as that wasn't included as well as probably having to replace the drivers seat as it was also damaged.

Question - Can the insurer after initially authorising a repair turn round and then decide to write it off if many more or expensive parts are needed than originally estimated (in my case the drivers seat)?

The dashcam I have is HP f310, though the f210 would have been the better choice as the gps is useless, video quality is good though.

Glad they are going to fix it

How did the seat get damaged?

Glad they are going to fix it

How did the seat get damaged?

By having me in it and the seat belt is also attached to the seat frame. the load from the collision via the belt seems to have twisted the frame a bit.

Ok, that makes sense. Just make sure they fix it to your satisfaction and not theirs

I work on a site with a bodyshop and see many cars autorised and then declined and heaps of parts sent back to supplier after more parts have been added. Glad you are ok. How was the seat damaged?

Thanks for the info.

Interesting enough Gs to trigger the seatbelt pre-tensioner but not enough to trigger the airbags.
