Passenger Side Rear Fog..

Featured Replies

Okay,

Maybe someone will know if this is a quick fix I can do myself.  Essentially, the passenger side rear fog illuminating when sidelights are switched on..  A few months ago, I asked a guy at the local garage to see if he could get both fog lights on instead of just driver rear on its own, given the Fabia TDI (52-reg) has two fog lights available to it.  Even though he said he'd done it - it appears not quite (but I do get two fogs illuminating when switching the rear fogs on).. so without going back and forking out more money.. any ideas as to what he may have done?  would it be something via VAGCOM ? or, would it be wiring? or something else?

As you can imagine in the morning drive to and from work when it is nice and dark, it's been annoying the odd driver on the road.. :D

..any help would be appreciated!

cheers.

dodgy wiring I guess. There's a guide on here for how to do it properly.

do you have a link?

I would take the bulb back out in the meantime as its illegal.

Well the cops didn't bother with me afte being behind me for four junctions on the M6, so it can't be that bad..

No it's not. IIRC rules state that one rear fog light MUST be fitted but NO MORE than two are permitted.

One rear fog light on the offside in this country thats why there is an empty holder on the nearside for left hand drive / countries that drive on the left!

It is also an M.O.T failiure to have no offside rear foglight or a 21w bulb illuminated on the nearside when only side lights are switched on....trust me I know.

It maybe can't/isn't tested as a foglight according to my interpretation of that lot, if the original o/s foglight is working as intended.  It can surely be a fail for being a "not foglight" nor any other form of mandatory or optional light if it's on all the time with parking lights or dipped beam though?

Anyway, we know the OP isn't intent on leaving it like that.  Main thing is to get it put right, and check them regularly as the fuse is more likely to blow with two.

You are exactly right sir, that is why it would be a fail. Wether you have one offside fog or one each side is irrelavent but you cant drive round at night with a nearside bright 21 watt bulb that you cannot switch off. (Or technically in daylight)

Well, thanks for all the responses.. quite interesting reading what you have come back with.. In the end it wasn't a wiring issue.  It was a young mechanic at the garage who lied to me telling me he'd fixed the issue, when it turns all he had done, was take out a correctly fitted type of bulb, and replace it with an incorrect bulb.   This made it illuminate in fog mode all the time no matter what.   I did find the post which allows for two rear fogs to be used at the same time on this forum.. another fabia owner had used the spare slot on the connecter on the passenger side lights to run some 18A fuse wire and splice into the fog return cable in the loom in the boot and he presto, twin fogs.. don't think you can do this on models beyond the Mk1 fabia.. but hey ho..

I remember my old E-reg Nissan Sunny having twin fogs, and I don't really accept the fact that you don't need two, it's just manufacturers doing anything to scrimp and save on costs and make maximum money out of us motorists..

I've now got another issue on the car which I need some answers too but I'll stick that in another post..

thaks all again..
