EPC and CEL light on?

Featured Replies

Hi There,

I don't want to come across as a complete numpty in my first post but I have a feeling I'm going too!

I have just bought a used 1.2tsi  and have noticed if I have the keys in the ignition but the engine not running (trying to get to grips with the bolero, but thats a seperate issue!) the EPC and Exhaust Inspection lights remain on?.

There are No warning lights when the car is driving and it seems fine.

Is this an issue or me being stupid? I've looked in the handbook and couldn't see any reason for this?

Could anyone reassure me or confirm my fears?

Thanks in advance

Richard

It's fine for them to be on with ignition on but engine not running.

Welcome.

Nothing to worry about - with ignition switched on but engine not running, this is a confirmation that the system is operable but certain conditions not met - effectively a test of the dash warning lights. As long as the lights extinguish once the engine is running you are ok.

If there are any faults with the car they will be displayed on the infotainment screen (Bolero). Press CAR >> System Status (from memory) and it will display any faults.

I had a Tyre Presure Warning the other day displayed in Maxi dot and when I stopped and looked at the System status the said wheel was highlighted in Red.

Sure enough I had a screw in that tyre and the pressure was dropping slowly, managed to get to my local repair centre. puncture fixed TPM reset. All is now well

Simply Clever............

Yep the TPMS system on the Octavia 3 is v good. I had the warning appear on the motorway at high speed, briefly considered ignoring it but glad I didnt. I has a nail in one of my rear tyres and within minutes of stopping on the hard shoulder it was flat as a pancake.

V accurate and possibly saved me from having a serious accident. Like v much how it now tells you which wheel/s are affected.

And yes to OP sorry if all lights extinguish once the engine is running, nothing to worry about.

In fairness any logged warning/issue will appear in the vehicle status menu on the maxidot/infotainment screen...even down to a bulb being out or the car running low on screen wash (if you have headlamp washers).

All modern cars will do this as a MIL lamp check at key-on is stated as part of the european OBD & emissions requirements.

Only issue I have is the level of nanny like nagging of the system. Mine popped up with low fluid levels warning and I had 4 or 5 hopper journeys to make before I'd be home and able to fill her up again. The fact the bong goes at every start up is fine but the light is much to bright and invasive when driving at night in my opinion, that said I didn't bother to mess with the instrument cluster brightness setting. Does anyone know if the warning lights dim with the rest of the cluster?

Modern to me before this Octavia was an eleven years old mondeo I can't remember any warning lights ever coming on!

I'm just trying to be more responsible this time around! Maybe it won't last!

But the advice has put my mind at rest so thanks everyone.
