fabia 3 Vs new Polo

Featured Replies

I have been looking closely at both the above as my GLII is coming into the last year of my PCP so time to start the process working out the best options for replacement

the new polo has been out for about 3 month (according to vw salesman today)

my issue is I currently have an estate and no estate available in the polo, but do I need an estate (only use the full space once or twice a year)

I have a small trailer, so I have the option of a factory fit towbar which would be cheaper than an estate and would solve the issue on the odd occasion

the standard equipment on the polo is far better , and currently with the additional £1000 deposit contribution makes an SE 1.2 90PS cheaper than a fabia 3 1.2 90 PS

residual is better on the polo as well, as residuals and trade in are generally based on base car price not all the options (unless it is a desirable option like A/C) so will likely be going back shortly to test drive and get some finance figures

so likely to be leaving skoda for VW next year I think

anyone else having similar thoughts?

indeed... they seem to have lost the "value for money" that made them seem so good to me. A work collegue was looking at the greenline fabia (last year) and went to VW because he prefered the look of the polo bluemotion, explained the skoda deals, and VW simply matched the price he would have paid for the fabia... If you can get a better equipped VW for the same price, then why not?!

I am curious as to why skoda seem to have lost there way, do they have desire to be number 2 in the group?

are skoda pushing their prices up and VW lowering theirs and now they seem to be meeting in the middle?

the polo SE 1.2TSI will only cost about £25/month more than my GLII and I only need to add two things, where as I need many more on the fabia

I have had skoda's for 15 years so will be sad to change but at the end of the day I am not sure I am their target market anymore

I built a Fabia SE 1.4 TDi 90 on the configurator yesterday in white with panoramic roof, front fogs, mats, blue interior and it came out at over 16 grand!

Now, I can buy a pre registered Polo SE 1.4 TDI 75 BMT with cruise, sat nav, parking sensors and a 100 miles or less on the clock in a jazzy colour for around 13-14 grand......

I know what looks better value even if it ain't a ball of fire. Skoda are losing their appeal to me as well but I want to stick with VAG.

Isn't the Polo quite a bit smaller internally? The boot is much smaller for example. It felt quite cramped when we test drove the Polo a few months back. I'd put money on you getting much bigger discounts on the Fabia over the Polo too, from DtD etc. which should make the Fabia cheaper.

Yes hopefully decent discounts will emerge. I can't imagine anyone buying a car like the Fabia 3 sight unseen.

Think a slightly used Spaceback now makes more sense than a Fab III, particularly once low mileage examples of the new and well equipped SE Sport trim start to appear on forecourts.

This is going a bit off the point.

You can't compare the value of a used car over a new one.  It doesn't make sense.

A used car is always better value unless you are talking about something quite unusual.

Yes people still go on buying new.

You have to compare new-new IMO.

I tend to agree, Skoda have now become VW2 , the price difference  between the brands have always been £1200 - £2000 and the spec difference gave Skoda the edge, while this band difference is probably now half that, the spec difference does not really seem like value for money anymore along with the discounts you can gel elsewhere, the only Budget brands left seem to be Kia ( as TG & their reasonably priced cars have shown).

Unfortunately I'm slowly coming round to the fact that Skoda are not making cars I'd personally buy now.

^This!

Looking at the current range there is virtually nothing to interest me anymore.

The new Fabia is going to be more expensive and none of the engines have sufficient poke especially if no vRS.

The Octy is abit too big for us and I'm sceptical about the interior quality for the high prices they now charge for one.

The only thing that vaguely gets my interest is a Yeti 4x4 170 but the boot is quite abit smaller than on our Fabia estate which could be an issue....

We'll definitely be looking to other brands for its replacement. I suspect that VAG couldn't give a sh$t if people leave Skoda as long as they go to VW or Audi or Seat as it's still money coming into their till.

Maybe Skoda are looking at setting the price to give VAT free offers from the start?

I bought my current Fabia on VAT free and because of that I was able to afford a new car. Affording a New Fabia on VAT free would be a distinct possibility.

I would expect them to be discounted..... the price of the rapid was silly at launch....

its a bitlike ford, their list prices are stupidly high, but they give big discounts!

problem is people are getting wise to these sort of tactic, price em him (get a few mugs with more money than sense) then discount them to a reasonable(ish) level

due to white good being sold like this for years

problem is when you have a monopoly of a dealership network it is not as easy to see as when shopping for a new fridge etc, where you see most (if not all retailers) claiming 50% OFF so you can easily work out the RRP is there for headline figure only and the true RRP is the 50% off figure

Unfortunately I'm slowly coming round to the fact that Skoda are not making cars I'd personally buy now.

The balance of value and quality seems to be lacking.

But the aim is no longer on providing quality and durability at a sensible price.

They are losing the Skoda joke name, so pressing on to earn more per car and trying to battle the mainstream brands while being forced by VW not to make the cars too good.

A sorry state IMO, if they were not limited by VW I think they could do great things.

Currently it seems that whatever Skoda you buy it's clearly been designed to be not quite as good as it's sister model in the VW empire. Shame.

I would agree, but on the other hand without VW's millions Skoda would probably not occupy anything like its current position in the marketplace and we would probably not all be driving round in one. But like any assistance of that sort it ultimately comes at a price and that price is that VW are now aligning their various brands in the market to suit their needs.

I am not sure that is totally true

from what I have seen the prices and spec skoda UK create seem to be higher prices and lower spec when you compare to other EU distribution franchises

skoda as a brand has certainly benefited from the injection of technology and reliability the link with VAG has brought them

Skoda UK I personally think need to start thinking of their customers as just that customers, rather than the mugs  or sheep to be fleeced that they are at the moment

that will not happen until people start walking away, this is nothing to do with the dealers, as they have to sell what skoda UK provide. this was seen with the way the rapid was priced and its spec improved when sales did not materialise

I think the fabia 3 will go the same way, skoda uk will see if people are willing to pay over the odds for the car before introducing discount and possibly improve the spec over the next 6 months, that will put it to late for me

I have a test drive booked and valuation for my car against a new polo, so long as the dealer will meet me in the middle on price it is likely I will have a new polo for the 15 reg next year not a skoda, and it is likely 3 other cars in the family will follow as they come to the end of there respective pcp contracts unless skoda uk change

The personal touch with Skoda is going and it's becoming too corporate. I know its about making money but they are starting to feel like Vauxhall. Just too generic.

New Fabia - Too plain and apparently no vRS coming. Not happy the Race Blue and Rallye Green colours are being used on non vRS models
Rapid - Boring and named in irony.
Roomster - Badly needs updating
New Octavia - too big and the vRS isn't enough of a step on. I know people who have had 3 vRS estates and they have no interest in getting the new one.
Yeti - It's a good drive but there's thing I don't like about it, mainly people's blinkers about it.
Superb - Isn't bad but I bet there's even Audi equivalents on DTD.

Skoda have nothing I want for at least the next few years.

A Fabia 3 with a 1.4 TSI Active Cylinder Deactivation might change your mind ie 0-60 in 7.5 seconds, 62 average mpg and if they do that at a reasonable price ie less than £16K then many Fabia 2 VRS owners might be tempted, me for one.  Next year please.

with skoda UK's current pricing policy that spec I likely to cost £18k-£20k, hence they can't see much interest

My local Seat dealer is doing the Ibiza 1.4 ACT FR Edition for £13,000 brand new, now there's a bargain.

Just been looking at an Ibiza 1.2 TSI FR estate, that's cheaper again so let's see how much Skoda can do an equivalent Fabia estate for.

well test drive booked, lets go see what life outside skoda is like

wish me luck :)

Nobody pays list price for a Skoda these days...
