Nissan Leaf deals

I put 6k but you can do more

I'm guessing 30K might push it up quite a lot :D

A pure electric car clearly isn't for me but I always follow these threads with interest as I pay for my own fuel.

Hybrid, electric, hydrogen will work for me one day.

I heard that the batteries have to be changed at around 5-7 years, is this true and it must be expensive.

Form someone that's actually owned one or from 'the internet'? :D

I have been running a Leaf since November last year. I traded in my Roomster 1.6 Tdi SE for it. In the last year I have done 8,500 miles at an estimated cost of £200 for electricity. Obviously this is offset by the cost of the car, but I have, for longer journeys, used the Nissan 14 day loan of a Petrol / Diesel car. This has worked really well as its helped not to put about 2,000 miles on my car!

Some people have been running Leafs for 3 and a bit years now and some in the US have put 100,000 miles on the original battery. If the battery replacement costs are a concern you can 'rent' the battery and buy the car then the battery is nissans problem if it packs up.

I would say to anyone considering one to try it before they buy. We had one for 24 hours before we bought ours but I was sold within the first half a mile. It is as quiet and smooth as a limo! If it fits your diving habits I can recommend it.

Saying that we are looking to get a second car as our circumstances are beginning to warrant it and I am thinking about a return to Skoda for the second car. A part of me is hankering after a Mk1 Fabia 'My first Skoda'. This has been fueled by Bossfox and his FGF thread although not sure I'm brave enough for that particular shade!

If anyone has any questions on the Leaf for someone who has actually ran one then let me know!

Cheers

Seriously.

No, no and no again!

The earliest LEAFs are now three and a half years old and are up to around 50-60k miles.

They have lost about 3-5% of battery capacity.

The battery is designed to last in various countries with very hot and cold climates.

Hence the UK's climate is battery friendly.

Glad you are getting on with it.

We run four at work, I had one for 6 months and did 10,000 miles in it, with the battery ending up with slightly more capacity than when it was delivered. :)

Thanks for that Bossfox

what kinda range do they really have on a full charge, and whats the charging time like on just a normal domestic supply?

gnagh, stupid uneditable phone. I also meant to ask, do they drain power if sat not used for a while?

The 2011-2012 cars (and base Visia model 2013+) have a less efficient heater so realistically do 80-90 miles, dropping to 55-60 in deep winter.

The mid and top spec 2013+ cars have a far more efficient heat pump.

So while the summer range is similar, the winter range is around 70-75.

Charging on a normal household plug takes 10 hours (roughly) from empty.

Obviously faster if you have a charging unit installed.

I have a 32A charger on the side of my garage which will charge one of the work LEAFs in 3.5 hours.

There is minimal charge losses if they are left.

If leaving one for a month just made it's not low.

I've seen a loss of around 1-2% total capacity per week.

With the range, remember it depends on your driving style. You get a feel for how they like to be driven to preserve range.

I can get 105 miles out of a 2013 LEAF, but if in the mood I can get it down to 50.

cheers Boss, real info is alot easier to base a decision on than just the dealer's blurb and manufacturers dodgy promises

Had a price today off Drive The Deal

£1000 down

£166.80 x 24 months

10000 miles

That's was for the mid range Acenta

How fast and where are you driving them BF?

Just wondering how they'd manage on a 70 60mph country road

Sorry had to think there why you were calling him boy friend. Doh. Bossfox.

They are speed limited to 99mph and do 0-62mph in 9 seconds dead.

Ignore Nissan's quoted top speed and performance.

I was driving them mainly on a mix of motorways and duelcarriageways, pottering along at 60-62mph.

That's with the air-con/heating on.

Around town they are more efficient due to deduced drag, it's when you put your foot down the range drops.

I won't say how I got one to 55 miles on a charge, but it did involve upsetting an RS4 driver I cought napping enough that he had to chase after me and do a re-overtake.

Some people don't like being passed by an EV. :D

We've gotten close over the years :cocktail:

I spotted what Police Scotland call their Carbon Free EV while at the court office paying my £100 and getting 3 points put on my Paper Part. It had me thinking again, must get a EV, with speed limiter, then I thought stuff it, I will still end up ragging it.

It's easier to "rag" an EV because with no gears and linear acceleration they just go, and go and go.

No noise then suddenly you think, this is a bit faster than I was expecting.

  • 1 month later...

And I picked mine up this evening. It's a good day to get a car with a heated steering wheel and seats! Loving it so far.

Sadly not an evening to drive about. It's hard enough just standing up outside!

Police Scotland have gone with Mitsubishi EV's,

and also Mitsubishi AWD on unsutable tyres for the season.

I do not know much about them, other than they get taken out shopping lots,  but not washed much it appears.
