OK - I'm determined to get a decent convoy of cars on the Friday afternoon from the South & East. As far as I can gather, from Birmingham (pronounced Beee-ming-Am) the route will be M42/M5/M6 to junction 10A, M54 west to the end, A5 to Oswestry and I think all the way to Llangollen... Correct me if this route will lead me to Angelsey or somewhere. :D

So, I propose the following. First pick-up . Junction 4 on the M42, close to the airport & NEC area, heading west to the M5, or east to the M6, then North to follow the route as above. I aim for a meet up at J4 at around 2pm for a 3pm leave.

Second option could be a 3.30pm meet up at somewhere like Frankley services on the M5, or similar on the M6, but TBH, if you're tempted to join this convoy, everyone should probably try and get to J4, M42, and we'll all leave from there and go straight to Llangollen.

I know many will be travelling on the saturday am, so I guess this doesn't apply to you lot. Only those planning a Friday stop-over.

BTW - Just seen a forcast for early next week - looks to be getting settled & warm again, which is promising for the weekend...

I think my route will go past Brum, so I might just join in on Friday. Not sure yet of time of departure on my end (I like to keep things to the last minute as you've might have guessed), but I'll be following this thread with interest.

Head for Chirk, a treat awaits you, although more details later.

Wish I could make the convoy on friday, but will have to forgo that in favour of coming up saturday morning. Need to save the pennies a bit! :D

Apology accepted for 882K file size. - lucky I at least have ISDN at work. :D

BTW - I'm now curious about Chirk - what's so special about it? :D

I keep forgetting i'm on a 1meg line lol :D

What time you guys heading north?

I won't be staying over fri night, but may be in birm on fri, would be cool to convoy up with you guys...

Will be leaving Birmingham around 3pm

Sounds almost exactly the same time as matt & I plan to leave too, Ian. How far are you heading because we'll be turning off for the M54 not far north of Brum.

I'll be joining the M5 at J2, then up to M6 until after thelwall where I'll cut east on the M62.

So you'll be in North Brum then.... Not sure the logistics will work out, as we're planning meeting J4,M42, i.e South Brum. We'll have to see nearer the time - I think the distance from J2,M5 to J10A,M6 is not very much so it may not be worth your effort. :(

Indeed, was just a thought as I may be in the area, will keep an eye out for you if I am.

And we shall likewise look out for a hurtling 4x4. :D

Lots of cracking lines north, personally if I'm doing

Other options, from the M5, well any A road NW, I seem to recall the A548 was good, used it occasionally to visit family in South Brum, however if you have a lot of time, consider the A49 from Hereford. Or get up there for Tea, then head out for a short Tour, talking myself into this more and more now... :D But A483 is closed between Newtown and Llandrindod, headache moi, noooo.

Please please be carefull mid wales police are active with there toys of revenue...I'm on a rant day, Schools back all "speeding spots" where kiddies are are untrapped, big open A road is trapped...logic?

I shall keep my speed into double figures when I cross the Welsh border, I promise.

So, Is Chirk the meeting place on Friday early evening? It sounds like our little convoy could be there by about 5pm fairly easily, traffic permitting.

Hmmm. Just done an RAC Route Plan from home to Chirk - 160 miles - on a Friday evening. I won't be getting there for early doors then. I'm planning on leaving about 4 to 4.30, as I have to get home from work and fen jr has to come home from school. I'm going to plan for a 4 hr trip, based on the M1/M6 being sha99ed at that time in the evening on a Friday, so I should be there 8 - 8.30 - what's planned in the evening??

Is there anyone else from the East of England going? Denis & Stimps both notable by their absence from the list.

Cheers,
