Hi all   Gave the Polo a quick single wash yesterday - don't want to do too much work as I have the car being detailed next week and want to leave the paintwork as untreated as possible until then.

Mate, when your previous car was a 60bhp Citigo, believe me the Polo GTI is "blistering"

Hi all

Gave the Polo a quick single wash yesterday - don't want to do too much work as I have the car being detailed next week and want to leave the paintwork as untreated as possible until then. But, with the sun shining so nicely it seemed a shame not to take at least a few snaps for you guys...

Lovely looking little car, I do like them :)

Enjoy

I was looking at one earlier today (just passed one parked in the street) - perhaps time to ditch the pensioner's shopping trolley seat cover pattern?

Thats the best bit (for me)

Does it have ACC?

Just cannot see any radar unit but they may have changed the design as the little box is a bit butt ugly.

Hero_AutoPosCollisionBraking.jpg

Supported by the airbag sensors, the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System automatically initiates braking after the vehicle suffers a collision, and brakes for as long as necessary to reduce the speed of the vehicle to 6mph in order to prevent or minimise the severity of subsequent collisions. Standard on all Golf models.

ACC is on the Polo options list, but not for the GTI.

Crumbs....that was a bit of a list!

Take it you have opened a new account Keith Or is there a new Keith?

post #134 looks like a list of stuff you would expect on a car, like seats and wheels and lights and stuff, mirrors, glass, brake calipers and other essential stuff.

Not that accurate on some stuff and is about a GTI and mentions exluding rear disc brakes on lesser models that are not GTI.

Anything less than that and VW would really be penny pinching on the Halo model.

PS

Paddle Shift will be unlikely to be standard with a manual gearbox but no mention of a DSG as being standard in that list.

So options and extras to be added making an even longer list.

Just been at Inchcape VW Swindon picking up the missus Polo GTI, looks and drives well with 8 miles on the clock.

Had a nose around showroom, stumbled on a nice speced Golf Alltrack Estate. 2 punters picking up New Golf R Hatches, one in Met Black and the other in Limestone grey. Woman taking out their Black Golf R Hatch Demo.

So all in all a healthy looking trading day.

Haven't got behind the wheel of the GTI but the 1.8 has a good torquey pickup. Tomorrow!!

Bye bye Fabia vRS,see you around!!

Car:Fabia VRS to Ibiza FR ... Peugeot 208 GTI on 01/03/2014!

When me and the missus were out today on Running-in,get to know you run in her Polo GTI we came across a convoy of this, presumably on testing rumour.

Look very nice in darker blue in the glorious Wiltshire sun.

Couldn't stay with the GTI though.lol
Hope you don't mind me asking but how have you found the Polo?

I have one ordered - due beginning of April.

I'm coming from Fabia Vrs, seat Ibiza and currently Peugeot 208 GTI.

The Peugeot has been good fun but 2 growing kids mean I needed a bit more practicality (5 door).

I couldn't get a test strive for love nor money but drove a Blue GT and did a lot of research which tends to suggest I'll get near identical performance as the Peugeot (perhaps a bit better in gear-real world performance due to extra torque) but with more practicality.

Would be interesting to hear your early opinions (although it's too late as mine will be here in a week or two!!!)

Cheers

FOX1429,

We picked up my partners Polo GTI on Saturday lunchtime, after picking up her son and two school mates, who had been partying the previous night. So tent rolls etc. requiring boot space ,as well as a rear seat for 3 adults (17 year olds) .note her son is 6'3" 15 stone,so not petit .

Arrived at dealers ship to PX the Fabia vRS MK2 ( my partners 2nd and much loved car)

So first notable difference here was boot height, but we still managed to squeeze all stuff and humans it.

Early days yet but my missus does a 60 mile commute so will be interesting to hear her 1st weeks driving experience - currently she is over the moon.

Car first impressions are , the high quality of paint and fit and finish of body panels. Interior, well top class fit, finish and materials compared to the vRS.

We both love the retro look of the tartan upholstery , I had one of the 1st ever  Golf GTIs ,so bring backs great memories of that ownership.

Car is very well spec'd. and is in Metallic Black with red trimming ,looks cracking.

The 1.8 matched to the DSG, runs very smoothly, if it were mine, I would have plumped for the manual but she is driving in traffic regularly , so fully understand her selection.

So initial conclusion is, Bloody Chuffed.

Thanks VrsKeith appreciate the reply.

I've gone for flat black manual with sports pack, winter pack, convenience pack and parking pack.

Decent spec and it seems I won't be disappointed with the performance/quality.

Plus with a 7 year old and 16 month baby the 5 doors will be a godsend (especially after a recent shoulder op!)

Just hope I'll be able to drive again in next week or so otherwise it'll be sitting in the dealers waiting!!

Just had a really enjoyable blast in my Partner's Polo GTI DSG this morning. 900 miles on the clock but motor has eased up nicely with her 65 mile daily commute.

Wacked into Sport mode,  on the dash button, god this little thing flies and handles really well around country lanes normally progressed in my departed R hatch and now my R Estate.

Real good fun, handles well, yes a little stiffer than normal mode. Good balance between pace and ride. Much fun over 30 miles 90 % in quick mode and still showed 36 mpg returned. Filled her car up for the first time not Tesco Momentum, but Sainsbury's Super Unleaded. Last 350 miles  tank full ,on Tesco Momentum returned 36.2 mpg.

My missus does has a heavy ,as she will openly  admit to.

Conclusion, loved the brisk drive on this glorious sunny Wiltshire morning.

PS. That 1.8 feels and  sounds great, nice low down torquey rumble.

Loved the write-up Keith - pretty much echoed my own thoughts on ownership. I am also pleasantly surprised by the mpg - after plenty of spirited spurts  of fast driving, never dropping below 35/36 mpg. I have the manual and the car has plenty of torquey pull left in 6th in most situations. Dropping down to 3rd for an overtake is a definite rush and feels very strong.

The more I drive this car, the more I LIKE AND ENJOY IT. Sure it could be further developed at little money!

This really should have been the successor  to my much loved Fabia vRS MK2.

That is exactly what my missus says, after having two of then - warts and all.

?

What do you think then, is the 2015 / 16 Polo GTI 1.8 TSI the best value Hot Hatch currently on offer,

and worth spending just a little on a remap and maybe better brakes to have a New 200ps Plus Hot Hatch at under £20,000

to match the other 200-220 ps Hot Hatches around?

(Given that there is a 3 or 5 door, manual or Automated Manual giving more choice than from other manufacturers.)

Do they do the Cupra in 4 doors?

Probably not.

Going by the pictures the Seat looks positively dated inside and certainly not of the polo quality.

We love the Gti, nearly had it a year and 8k odd miles it's great fun to drive and brilliant value for money.

Although.. I've just checked drive the deal and the Cupra can be had with a £4159 discount making it £13,875!!!

That is a bargain and I could live with 2 doors and not so nice plastic at that price.

Apart from bragging rights, not sure if mapping the Polo would achieve much in real world. An aggressive right foot can destroy tyres as it is, and I've read on Polo forums of near 250bhp remaps that are just wheel-spin central. Maybe if the Polo R with 4WD ever appears... As Keith says, it is indeed a blistering car to drive, and the sport button only adds to the frantic nature. Whilst on the subject of the sport button, I will say that the cabin sound resonator thing never feels fake or obtrusive, at least to my ears. Quite subtle really, like the rest of the car.
