Replaced the battery, now the cover doesn't fit

Featured Replies

Right had to replace the battery on my Mk2 fl vRS today only problem is the jacket for the old battery doesn't fit the new one as the new battery is over an inch longer.  Does anyone know if the plastice battery box housing/cover from the pre-facelift fit the tary in the facelift?  I know the battery is the same size as my dad had a pre-facelift and that had the plastic battery box on it.... would messure it all up but he no longer has the car.

Only want to know as it just makes the enginebay tidier and I don't really want to see the battery.

Or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Cheers

Aeron

I think common sense would dictate you get the correct sized battery. Otherwise it sounds like a faff/expensive route sourcing parts to fit over the new battery.

Battery was bought from TPS the trade parts place so the battery is the correct one for the car from their records.

Clearly not if the cover doesn't fit!

if you are that worried i'd go back and tell them the battery is not correct for the car and you'd like one which is

I'm not worried about the battery, the only difference is the Amp Hour rating and it's larger.  All I'm asking and would like to know is can the battery enclosure from a pre-face lift car be fitted to the battery tray in the face lift.

It should do.

The only reason Skoda changed to a fabric cover on the FL was to save cost, both in the cost of the plastic container and the battery itself (lower Ah and CCA).

I've recently measured the battery in my pre-FL to make sure the new one I just ordered would fit.

The biggest battery you can fit in the pre-FL plastic container is an 096...

Length - 278mm

Width - 175mm

Height - 190mm.

Thanks silver1011.  Thought the reason would be down to cost saving, will keep an eye out at the local scrappers for the parts.

Any body got a part number for the plastic cover as I'd be interested in retro fitting.

Will let you know the side parts if they fit when I get them, but I think they are 1K0915335B and again I think the lid is 1K0915443A but not 100%.

I'm confused. My FL VRS has a plastic battery box. Did they only swap to fabric jackets for a while?

Don't know on that one, but it sounds like it.

Same thing just happened to me!

Ordered Bosch S4 096, removed old battery & new one is longer (278mm). No problem fitting the battery & car runs fine (once I found out how to get rid of the amber PAS/ESP lights!) but the fabric cover is too short to cover the new battery.

Not sure what to do. I've fitted mine so it covers the +-ive terminal but it looks messy. Could make my own if I could source the materials. Am considering taking it off completely and putting terminal covers on when I work out which ones I need.

Did you get sorted out Aero71?

Changed my battery from a 64AH to a larger 096 Bosch S4 last week and initially could not get the plastic shell to fit down far enough - and then realised that the forward end was inside the battery cable and not enclosing it - removed the cable from the terminal and fitted the shell over the cable, and then it went down properly and I could fit the plastic cover.

Might it be something like that?

Mine's the cheap cardboard thing..it wraps arounf the battery and tucks on to a slot with a cardboard lid/flap over the top of the battery. It's an original part too as the car was owned from new by my mate. I've found a photo of how it looks on briskoda

It's impossible to put it on incorrectly!

The latest models get a cheap fabric case.

The days of a solid plastic case and lid are reserved for the older models.

Cost cutting at its best!

Aha...just found my answer in another thread, I need part 1K0915411B which is a larger battery cover!
