Coolant warning light

Featured Replies

Had an interesting one today.

Got the red triangle with the exclamation mark. vRS TDi Estate with 1500 miles on the clock.

Had been traveling about a mile when it appeared. Then got the coolant warning. Got the missus to read the manual.

I know, I know, I should have memorised it!

On a frosty day worried more than normal. But the temperature came up to 50 and then 90 and stayed at 90.

Less worried now. Check level of coolant. Below minimum! Checked oil filler for emulsion, all okay. Looked under car no drips.

Called in at Skoda garage within 5 miles, luckily on route.

Calm the gentleman said this happens sometimes with new cars. After a few miles air pockets clear and level goes down.

Anybody else had this or is he just pulling the old leg?

Literally paid £11 for 1.5 ltr of coolant, put 10 ml in when it cooled down and now got a nearly full one for sale!

If you do a search for 'coolant level' on this forum you'll find it's pretty common.

Hang on the bottle, you'll use it.  And yes the dealer speaks the truth.

Thank you to cnc and neiln for feedback. The wonders of commonality.

£11 for a bottle....that should be done under warranty as the car didn't come as it should have from the factory. Air pockets are indeed a problem when filling any system with fluid so it should be covered as it isn't alwys possible to clear all air pockets in factory conditions, sometimes they need a good old British road shake to budge them all.

I would revisit your dealer /stealer and ask them for a refund. They can also keep your near full bottle of coolant as technically you shou never have bought it in the firepst place!

My coolant light came on this morning as I started it up, stopped the engine. Opened the bonnet to find the expansion tank empty. Currently awaiting a vw technician to arrive to check the car over.

I think I might check my level now it has 1200 miles on the clock .........

Well the vw technician has been, all that he did was top up the coolant fluid pressure tested it and then ran it for a couple of minutes to supposedly to get the engine warmed up, you would have been lucky if the engine even got above the ambient temperature. To say that I am not impressed is slight under statement, as car with over 8000 miles should not be losing coolant. I will just need to keep and if the coolant drops it is going straight into the garage

Just to prove how really stupid I am, I asked for a bottle of the coolant.

And he explained it would also go in our 05 reg Fabia vRS and sold it to me!

Bless.
