Jaguar XE ,Really liking the look , spec and price.

XE Estate is coming, apparently, don't know when though.

Seeing a few more on the roads of late, but not well spec'd ones.

I had a 3.0v6 auto box go mad on me, which was rubbish, but the manual XE I drive was lovely. Bluetooth worked just fine, electrical bits didn't misbehave and there wasn't a single rattle.

I think it's just a case of as with all marques, you do get some lemons.

What'll be more interesting is how the dealers deal with it.

Was the 3.0v6 an XE you mean?

No it was in a previous shape XF estate. It's weird going fine one minute, then a fast start and the gearbox carped itself into limp mode, which was massively disconcerting. If only they'd put that engine (well the replacement for it) in the XE with a nice 6 speed manual box.

Now the XF i drove had a sublime auto box - lovely and smooth.

I think I'd still push for an XF, if I was in the market.

Box was great when it was working, it just freaked out once and the car had to go back to the dealer.

The ZF8HP is fitted very widely and is known for being reliable, smooth and economical.

Also get an issue with one or two though.

Hi Lee, you seem the oracle when it comes to BMW and it's derivatives :)

I've heard lots of good thing's about the ZF8FP gearbox.

What are the best cars mated to this box?

I'm in the market for a new car soon, and probably a DSG / auto, so would be interested in your recommendations :)

Again, Keith? Really? :D

15.5k down and then £356/month? Wow. That just seems like madness to me. The 3-yr MGFV of under 18k is very low. That just kills the monthlies really. 3-year MGFV on an RS3 is over 24k by comparison (same mileage).

Not looking at numbers yet Tom.

Just want to drive it and see if it does the business for me. So remain open minded. Buzz or no buzz equals Deal or no deal!!

Fair play, but it's wise to have an idea if the figures can work for you before getting test drives etc. Otherwise I'd be heading to a Ferrari dealer this weekend lol...

Looking at those figures you'd have to be crazy to swap into that from a Golf R which you own outright imho.

At those numbers I'd be ordering an M2 and stuff the lack of rear doors!

M2

Lead time 12 months plus now and it will be increased again in price. Supply and demand with Manufacturer holding back and or lack of capacity.

Depends if you know where to look ;-)

Complete with Keith's copy and paste efforts!

As for the XE, a good friend of mine has one as a company car since July, following 100k in 3yrs at the wheel of a 320d.

It's a lovely place to be, they've put some real effort into cabin design and materials. I'd still find it quite cramped though I think - rear space isn't great, boot is reasonable for a saloon I suppose. Goes well, the auto is lovely and NVH is better compared with the 3-Series.

He's got the 2.0d R-Sport 180 auto - so around £35k list.

or if you have the right handshake - know what I mean!

Tom,

18th month turnover for you, so order now, you should take delivery by summer 2017 lol

Happened to be in local Jag dealer this afternoon and they had a 2.0d R-Sport 180 auto with a few extras and it was £43K (think it was a 4WD though, so £36.5K list). 12% discount eases the pain a bit, but I thought it looked pretty expensive.

Another £2K on list gets you into a new A4 saloon in 3.0 V6 diesel, 272 hp, quarto S-Line guise and there's a 16% discount available too.

I know it's horses for courses, etc., but that 3.0 V6 would win me over every time.

Saw one of these on the road this morning.

To me it looked rather humdrum.

Just a normal car with the Jag F-Type mimicking rear lights and a big grille, again to try and link itself to the bigger model.

Without these two things It would have eally blended in to the rest of the other traffic.

It looks like Jaguar have tried to be quite inoffensive with the styling.  Except for the different bumper on all the press shot sporty ones.

Shame really, just another low end car in a range of premium ones trying to tread the balance for blandness to the reps and cost to the company.

Think most corporate designs follow the same theme these days. You only have to check out the brand identity. Grills, side profiles back ends etc. Shared components or similar designed component reduce cost of tooling etc for volume product.

Uniqueness usually adds considerably to cost, so I guess there will seem to be a degree of blandness when the aforementioned manufacturing cost are a considerable contributing factor.

That being said we all like different things and consequently it would be a bloody boring world if we all liked the same things.

Each to their own me thinks!

Thought I could see a hint of Jag in the Tesla profile or perhaps I need to go to Specsaver!lol

Just as a bit of a generalisation but the Modern Jag seems to now be the car of choice of Business Trampers that want to have their car inside the back seat of yours, having taken over from Audis as the No.1 UK Tailgater of cars in front following the flow of traffic.

Do the Jags not come with some form of self braking system as standard or is it an expensive option?

They do seem to have auto wipers or the drivers are quick at getting them on because they detect my windscreen wash quite quickly.

I reckon its Adaptive cruise, set distance to 3mm, go to sleep until you get there. Happy days.
